SciFi and Fantasy Art: Hibiscus Wind

I'm really pleased with the way this one turned out. This is probably the most wild patterning and coloring job I've ever done... Er, this week.

Inspiration comes to me from many sources, and two of my favorites are large tropical flowers and small tropical fish. The hibiscus flower rules the day, but not the color scheme. Christmas wrasse and the East-Indies parrotfish inspired the patterns and colors of the pegasi. I did deviate quite a bit from the actual fish patterns, but the colors are all there.

This one is Prismacolor pencil over a watercolor wash - a technique with which I'm very comfortable. Not much experimentation for this one; not nearly as much as some of the other contest pieces. But I needed a sure-fire winner, at least in my own mind.

This one is actually fairly small, too. It's 11x14 inches. I completed it in approximately 20 hours over the course of about a week.

I was looking through all the new arrivals, to see if my own stuff was on this page, and there it WAS... but before I got there, I ran into your work, and this is just stunning... I love it... the representation of the wind and wild abandon is beautiful, because to me, the wind is full of color, flying by at the speed of... well, wind! Carrying with it all the places it has been and things that it has seen, whispering in your ears with faint and ghostly music, bidding you to come follow, come catch me, come find the world. GREAT JOB *S* Namaste... and now I shall depart with the wind, dancing the first comment dance... until I... DISAPPEAR~~~~~~~ *gone*LOL - Awesome comment; thank you very much. I'm going to have to remember that "abandon yourself to the wind" idea next time I try something like this. The piece is so structured that I don't know that a looser approach would have worked in it - but the idea is definitely worth playing with for a future project. ^_^

These colours! 1LOL - These colors... are REAL! Well, they're exaggerated just a bit, but the fish that inspired these crazy color schemes are quite real. ^_^

Amazing. I can't even think of anything intelligent to say. The detail and the flow of the colours. Truly it's a beautiful piece of art. Thanks very much. ^_^
