SciFi and Fantasy Art: The Nefarious Octoparrot

I've been tooling around with this idea for some time, ever since DeviantArt buddy Avancna got it stuck in my head a couple of years ago.

Behold, it's a cockatoo... with tentacles... BWAHAHAHAHAHA!

Watercolor and Prismacolor pencil. Accomplished in about 10 hours. Apx 9x15 inches in size.

This is so beautiful... brilliant imagination. Though I'm not sure he'll be able to fly with all those legs. Seems kind of odd. 2

Weirdo... haha! Just kidding! I find it fascinating! Excellent details, and your colour scheme is GORGEOUS!

Now this is one of the most original ideas I’ve seen. Kind of unusual, which is not a bad thing at all. A less talented artist would have made it look "cartoonish" but you did awesome!

:-) Rachael Mayo replies: "A cartoonish sort of octoparrot is what inspired the idea in the first place, so making this birdiesquid fairly realistic was really the point of the exercise. I wanted to see if I could make the creature look like it *could* function in the real world, in spite of its outlandish nature. Glad you like it, and thanks!"
