SciFi and Fantasy Art: Promises Remembered

Finally, this mammoth project is complete.

In the year of our Lord 4046, it falls to Noah's great-great-great (x82) grandson to take with him all of Earth's animals, the original real ones as well as the beautiful, fantastic ones that Mankind has dreamed up. He and his wife gather them all, two by two, and with the city-sized Ark Mark II go to settle on a whole new world.

This is a commission and gift for my good friend Dave S., his wife Jennifer and their daughter Grace. To Grace: Happy very, very belated first birthday.

I used a watercolor wash as an underpainting, but the vast majority of the detailing has been done with colored pencil.

I have also uploaded a HUGE version of this picture so that the dozens of creatures can be seen more clearly.

This is just wonderfully detailed and colored! This kind of art is rarely seen here in Elfwood, as well as I know.

I have just one thing to mention, and its not about the picture. If every animal only existed in pares, imagine the HUGE INBREEDING!!!! You raise a really good point... The original Ark operated under the same premise, though: 7 pairs of the "clean" animals and 1 pair of the "unclean" animals. Everthing, humans included, that survived from Noah's time onward is horribly, horribly inbred. Very puzzling.

This is all so detailed!
I'm impressed!
You've got real talent.
I'm wondering how long it took to make this picture.*Rachael counts on her fingers...* This project took about 80 hours all together, though I spread it out over several months.

OMG!!! ZEBRAS!!!!! I'm sorry, I just LOVE zebras. They are the coolest animals on Earth. About a month ago, I drew a zebra-pegasus, and your zebras are almost exactly the same. I mean, I love the whole thing, but those zebras are frekin' awesome!!

So I'm NOT the only one who noticed the inbreeding problem with the Ark...
Anyways.
I stared at this picture in total and complete SHOCK. This is f-...err..really awesome! The details! Colors! Animals! Ideas! Dammit! And I thought my "Mixies" were creative...

Thinking on Adam and Eve... aren't we all siblings?
Appart from the many good things others already listed I want to highlight how well you have blended the meeting lines of the different regions intogether. I am sure my daughters would spend weeks just sitting in front of it and pointing things out to me. Well done.Thank you very much. Backgrounds are challenging for me to do, so I am glad that all of the elements of the background for Promises Remembered work together.

I made this picture *for* a small child with exactly the idea that she would spend many happy days looking at all of the different animals and colors. ^_^

I can’t imagine a better first birthday present! This is an absolutely beautiful piece of artwork, I can’t imagine the time and effort that must have gone into it... I know it was a gift for someone special so I understand that making prints might undermine the meaning in it... but otherwise I would absolutely want one!! Once again your artwork leaves me breathless.
