SciFi and Fantasy Art: Song in the Sky 2

This is another project on which I changed my mind about fourteen times... Originally I was going to use a dragon as the primary visual element, but then it hit me: I wanted this to be about cloud formations more than anything else. I did need *something*, but the dragon just wasn't working properly. It refused to blend into the background the way I wanted it to.

The phoenix came to my rescue. I recalled that I drew the original Song in the Sky phoenix with a completely different color scheme, one which I lamented not being able to use elsewhere... until now. Mmmm... purple...  The phoenix was colored with Prismacolor pencils, then blended into the cloud photo background.

So. This is a digital manipulation of a bunch of different pictures of clouds I've taken over the years, with the phoenix added for color balance and subject appeal.

So beautiful and original. I love the concept! The phoenixes are great, and you have done a good job with the cloud photos.
Congrats with the Mods!!!

Wow! I can see why this got a Mod’s! This has to be one of the best if not THE best picture on Elfwood, and that’s saying a lot!

Although I like the fractal patterns you have made with the clouds in the little insets, I think I would much prefer the middle panel as a stand alone picture. Here you have fused two different forms of art - fractal-like manipulation and the phoenixes which you have rendered. I think that in the middle panel they are vying for dominance. My eye is pulled back and forth between the clouds and the phoenixes in a confusing manner. In comparison with the very well done shapes and forms, the layout seems a bit simplistic, which I think lets the picture down a little bit :-x

Sorry if this seems a bit harsh a critique. I LOVE the phoenixes, I LOVE LOVE LOVE them, which is probably why I am so disappointed that the picture isn’t working exactly as my own sensibilities would dictate. Of course its your pic so to hell with me 1 The fractals in the insets are beautiful...I really like them. I just personally would like to see these fantastic elements in their own pictures - either that or a little more "cohesive" as a picture on a whole.

All in all, lovely work.

It’s beautifully painted and very artistically laid out and in my opinion it’s very cohesive indeed, just look at how the shapes of the clouds and the Phoenix echo in the different frames. It’s stunning 1 The only thing that I would alter is to make the clouds in some of the square more the central image instead of a shape that looks vaguely like an xray of the human rib cage, and perhaps twist the squares about a touch 2

Excuse me but for the last few years I’ve rested a bit from fantasy and studied art as a whole so I think that I might have an idea about it by now 1

Love the phoenixes! The clouds are pretty cool too, although I agree with the ideas of the above commenters. The middle frame could definately stand on it’s own. It’s really awesome though as is! Amazing concept2 Congrats on the mods!
