SciFi and Fantasy Art: Archangel Jophiel: Heaven, Let Your Light Shine Down IIThis is the progress on the face. I've never had so much trouble getting details down, such as I am having at the moment. It is important to me to get this image done correctly. Why? I wish to be able to create an image that I could use at some point as an example of my ability. I have always wanted to have a published piece (who doesn't?), and I need to find the limits of my ability. The way I feel right now, I am pretty certain that this level of talent wouldn't be enough to make an image worth publishing. You may ask yourself why this matters to me. It's a dream. I've managed to fulfill one lifelong dream, to become a doctor. Now, I want to fulfill another...to have one published work. This face so far is only 7 cms long (2.8 inches), so the detail is definitely going to mess up my eyesight! *LOL* Let me know which you like better, the contrast increased or non contrast version...

Ah, you need to know how to add contrast and shading, and I don't know how! You say that you need to find the limits of your ability.. I say - why does there have to be a limit? I do not know if there is a limit--for any of us! But should there be one, I wisht to find it No doubt you are a good doctor (Blushing) Thank you- this is because you practise your skills every day, I daresay there are parts of your job that you could do with your eyes closed because you've done them so many times before..Well, there are those things that can be detected almost immediately due to constant human contact Art is exactly the same, the more you do it, the better at it you will be.. You obviously have a lot of artistic talent - all you need to do is practise. Try to draw something every day from life I do! Women! *LOL* - even if it's only a quick sketch of your coffee cup in pen in the margin of your notepad. I actually do have quick sketches all over the place. Generally shading squares and geometric figures. Sometimes, eyes. If you do this, eventually it will become a habit, and before you know it, drawing will become instinctive. Sorry to go on at you about this, but it's a lesson that it took me a _very_ long time to learn.. I hope that I haven't been to overbearing .. Overbearing? No, not at all. Insightful and instructive, that is what you have been. I must thank you!
| 26 Feb 2001 | Anneke Hut | Hi Richard, I've got the strange feeling this beautiful lady is shunted on to a siding, am I right? Or do I have to offer you a woodchip (with wine ? This angel has every promise to become a biting-into-piece, you know That is for YOU, I've got my own woodchip (LOL).(Laughing, while he accepts the woodchip)...well, you are right. She is going to a siding. I am still going to make Jophiel, but with a different model. And I'm going to need the woodchip for the detail I'm going to include in the new image! Thanks! | |
| 6 May 2001 | Shalini 'SilverWolf' Latchman | Very pretty, I like the tilt of the head.. and that hair makes me envious!Thank you, Shalini. | |
| 12 May 2001 | Lacey 'Anjel' Swanson Ruby | I'm going to be difficult... I like the hair better darker and the face better lighter. *grimace* sorry. (But I like them both.. oh well... Maybe I'm just jealous of your work and am trying to make your life more difficult... *laughs and winks*)No, I just believe you are being honest. I appreciate that! | |
| 23 Nov 2001 | Nicole Jacques | I think you should add more depth to the eyes, not in the eyes but around them, cause it kinda looks like their painted on rather than real eyes, because eyes tend to go in..lol..yah i know i'm not one to comment on that considering my art stinks, but yah i am learning, and this is all i've really been taugh so far, so maybe that will help you out with the 'flawless' or porcelian look By the way I like the darker one | |
| 10 Dec 2001 | Sorciere | My humble two-cents' worth...*smile* I like the darker eyes, hair, and lips, the rest I like better on the right side, the lighter one. But then, since I have fair skin, but dark hair & my eyes appear dark, maybe I'm just hinting to be a subject someday? *grin* I'd make a poor subject, though, can't sit still anymore. Lovely work darlin', do keep it updated. | |
| 20 Aug 2002 | Alma | Definately like the contrast increased! This is a beautiful pic!! You've got extreme talent. | |
| 14 Oct 2003 | Alynnmar | I prefer the darker image myself. You can see the detailing shadows a lot better. Though, truth told, both are better than I could ever manage! | |
| 28 Jul 2004 | Matthew W. Gonzales | I like the high contrast, this is very good, your lower lip doesnt look real, and the eyes have to heavy of an outline around them, and look kind of flat, but you did extremely well on the nose and hair, overall, this is better than any of the protraits ive ever done, I like it, just work on studying lower lips and eyes and you will see what I mean. | |
| 14 Jun 2008 | Kimberly | I find your drawings very interesting. My daughter’s name is Jophiel she is 12 years old and the eyes look just like my daughters eyes. We love it is it finished if so we would like to compare it to our daughter. | |
