SciFi and Fantasy Art: Clouded eyes fuel the hate
Thick gloom haunted the trees, licking the life of the forest floor which yearned so desperately for the innocent touch of the sun's warming rays, The only light cast from the indecisive fireflies.
The creature loomed here and there, her heavy hooves unsettling the dry earth below. She was without company, but not alone. Many passed through this place, those who came never left, though they reached, clawing, begging for freedom of the lush open fields, with sweet grass and delicate flowers, yet were condemned to only sit and watch from the forest edge.
Ahead of her, twisting from the roots of a lifeless tree, rose a lock of flowers, dancing in lockstep in the forgiving rays of the sweet winter sun that had fought the darkness to bless the regretful.
She snorted, she had been here for as long as she could remember, however no rays had glimmered on her coat or warmed her back. Was she not worthy of forgiveness? If she was refused contentment, then all that surrounded her would be too.
She bowed her contort horn to the soft powder blue petals, watching blankly as they mangled, shriveling till they were nothing but an object against a dreary background. The beast lifted her head, relishing the stolen rays, for she new they were not her happiness and would leave her quicker than they had come. But they stayed, for that moment, to lift her hope and warm her heart, so she too could leave the solitude of the forest to rest in the shade of the dying trees.
A tear trickled down her cheekbone, for she was ashamed, this was a place of shame and regret, nothing in this forest was worthy of forgiveness, but those looking in saw through eyes unclouded by hatred but all she could stare back with were eyes fueled by hate.
