SciFi and Fantasy Art: A Very Gryphy Little Dragon

This is a technical view of the Razahnu (Drakel nocturnis). The Razahnu belongs to a group of small, ultra-swift, fully feathered, and highly intelligent dragons called aviraptorids ('Bird hunters')which are invariably thought of as Gryphons. The species is native to the medieval alternate reality Earth of 'Alternia' (Sharaulni to the natives). In nature the Razahnu is primarily a semi-nocturnal hunter, raiding lurven nests and pouncing on pyraxha. The Razahnu also likes to fish, and it can 'fly' under water! The Razahnu often teams up with the similar sized Crested Tuhru (Plumas diablisavis ) to hunt large grazers such as toravatis and tralaxhus. The Razahnu is greatly valued by both nobility and common folk alike for its small size, high intelligence, and gentle disposition. The Razahnu is the most popular companion dragon and personal riding animal in all Sharaulni The Razahnu is viewed by science as the 'missing link' between lurvens (Alternian birds) and the larger less heavily feathered dorakids (Drakelsia).

This is what I mean by originality. It's so creative, with those wings and all the little anatomy labels. I wish we had better monitors at school so I could see him clearer. If you showed this to George Lucas I'm sure he'd raise both eyebrows! It's really like something for Star Wars worlds; Fantasy, yet realistic and very different form the traditional while also being cute and cuddly. * Huggles the feathered dragon. Wraps arms around the Razahnu's neck while he wraps those wonderful wings around her*

Well, It's up here on the I-Net. So if he ever cares to drop by and take a looksee-who knows?*Sighs and shrugs wings*

I looked at all the other razahnu drawings, but, I'll comment on them all here. FANTASTICO! MAGNIFICO! STUPENDOUS! How did you think of this creature in so complete a way?! Looks like you got a mistake or conflict tho in yor written description. In the flying one here you say it has a total wingspread of 5 meters (Like what's a meter?) and you put the wingpread as 10 meters for the other drawings of the same dragon. Which is it supposed to be? Looks like the larger measure is right?

The total wingspread IS 10 Meters. I never realized my error with the original and it has now been corrected. However, I'm not bothering to reload the corrected version. Each wing spans out five meters (A litle over fifteen of your standard feet-I think). The dragon is a little longer from beak tip to tail tip than the total wingspan--which is probably why I didn't catch my error sooner. The wing feathers are also a bit wrong---like several of my other such drawings I was concentrating on other aspects and forgot to make certain I was drawing then corectly. I have some new and unexpected problems right now and can't find much time to work on new or old art......

I can't believe that I never commented on this one before. I coulda sworn I had, but, here's my two drachmas; This is exactly what I mean by the amount of forethought you put into your world. I mean I'd love to see this sort of thing in Pern novel or Mercedes Lackey's gryphon stories...and they got illustrations! Just nothing that really tells you much about the creature's anatomy or makes it seem so realistic that you could expect to ( as you said) actually see one showing up at the back yard bird feeder! I can really see this thing in my mind's eye soaring overhead and the skeleton makes it all the more realistic! It's great to have a real scientist who loves dragons and gryphons the way you do. We need more creative minds like yours out there! Then maybe our movies, cartoons and toys wouldn't be so terribly disapointing!

You certainly do pay attention to detail. Not just "see" it, but are concious of it. Little mistakes or not *points at above comment*.... I'm impressed. Excellent design. Keep it up.

WOW! Those wings are amazing! I've never seen anythng like them anywhere! Totally original and I believe they could really work! More pages from your Alien Textbook? If anyone else ever comes out with anything even remotely like this design, why, you could sue them all the way back to wherever it is you come from! And we're talking Light years aren't we? Just incredible Imagination you got there!

Also a good inspiration, but this time more for my own worlds. This could be how a mixture between dragon and gryphon could look. *looks at Morfus son Ramric* Er. In "real life*, though, they simply look as gryphons, usually. At least on Astaraité.

You will do a much better version of this drawing...maybe you’ve already done it...I dunno on that score....But, the new one looks fantastic and hangs right next to Majestic Tralfaz in the Smithsonian. You imagination is just what the world needs at this critical time in history! It gets noticed and you become a legend! (In more ways than one!) I wish you could see it!
