SciFi and Fantasy Art: The Three Crows

This is one from a series of illustrations I did from a book called Grimm's Grimmest. They are the Grimm's fairy tales in their original form, blood, mutilation, cannibalism, incest, and all. This is a young man who has been blinded and is sitting beneath a gallows listening to three prophetic crows.  2000

beautiful..this really does look like something from that book. i was going to buy the book, but got a little disturbed when i read the one about the little boy getting his thumbs chopped off cuz he refused to stop sucking them. i probably will still buy it..but felt that my money was worth something less gruesome at the time

As far as the 'grim' aspect goes, your style of drawing suits it wonderfully! How about adding some daaaark tones in the picture as well?.. only if you think they're appropriate, of course. Love the stitching on the eyes - it's horrible (that's a compliment)!

Your dad didn't appreciate the book as a Chirstmas present several years ago! This is eloquent vindication. Your art draws me in and makes me feel the energy behind the forms. Thanks--awesome!

I would like that book. Yes sir I would. The crows look very mean, and that poor guy is just sitting there all sad and...blind. Usually for stories like this, I would say, as Jasmin said, that dark tones would be best, but for your style I don't think the darker colors would work. The grays just...they give this a more creepy feel, rather than downright dark and depressy, which is what I think these stories feel like. It is very Edward Gorey, and fantastic!

gosh i love your works! They all just make me laugh... in a good way (okay, the fact that i haven't slept for 24 hours might have something to do with the laughing....) And what imagination! And i like the fact that you have many different "styles"! Great job.----
