SciFi and Fantasy Art: Anika - color version

Anika started out as a pencil sketch of a centaur storyteller out in the Kithaeron mountains hunting down roman legionarys. What's changed is mainly some proportioning problems and the background has seen extensive work as well. I hope to add more detail to future drawings but I feel that the use of computer graphic programs to provide color, while they have some great benefits, lack in the quality and simplicity of adding minute details that really make a picture. Let me know what you think as this is the reason for my use of the Elfwood forum.

This picture is well...different. I'm not quite understanding the whole, woman-horse thing trying to kill the man in a tu-tu. It is cute though, and you should keep up the good work! :~b

The woman-horse thing is a centaur...you should know that if your viewing things on elfwood. The man-in-the-tu-tu is a roman legionaire in standard armor. those metal tu-tu's are good for those upper legs and shins, ya know!

The "blanket" as you call it is nothing of the sort and yes, in the roleplaying environment that this character came from the centaurs usually don't allow people to ride on their backs (hence the lack of a saddle). The blanket is actually a caparison, an ornamental covering often used on horses. It should maybe be larger or clasped around the front but as you can see from the original sketch, this portrait wasn't hashed out well before I painted it so I leave it as it stands.

i thought that centaurs found it dishonorable to carry people on their backs. then why does she have a blanket on her back? she's got fur there, and judging from the rest of her clothes, it's not cold enough for her to need an extra layer. so what's going on?!?!?!?!?

Although centuars are not know to be females in Greek Mythology(and usally drunken followers of Bacchus). This is a really good fantasy pic. Looks like the Romans won't be traveling in that side of the forest anymore.
