SciFi and Fantasy Art: Dark Efreet

Originally done with a ball point pen and colored pencils, I decided to experiment some with PhotoShop and learn what some of the tools did. Well, this is what I came up with. I'll stick the original in here as soon as I scan it in. Till then tell me what ya think or this one.

I like all the work you did on his muscles, especially the abs. Nice soft smoke effect as well as his fire/mist hair.

This is really cool. I like the blue you used, and the detail on the body if really good. Cool hair, too. Nice work!

I really would like to see the original on this one. 'Cause as it look now I go "coloured pencils, wow! is that even possible?..." so I'd like to know how much is pencil and how much is photoshop. Just to know what's pċossible to do with coloured pencils. ^_~

:-) Russell D. Drake replies: "I took the colors of the scanned in picture and smudged and airburshed them in Photoshop. Thats why this one has a soother feel to it than the usual colored pencil pic. The original is much lighter. Ill post it so you can see how much changed."

The shades are a little bit too rough, dont you think?

:-) Russell D. Drake replies: "Yeah I think it is too. I lost the original in a bad format of my old computer... doh, and this is all I have left. I had to resize it here in elfwood once a while ago and I got some degredation in the colors... to bad, it used to be much more smooth."

Nice muscle tone on the body, but if u're going to makes his body so defined, oddly enough, the smoke and fire has to be that defined as well. By that, I mean, more different shades in the smoke and fire. 2 They'll contrast each other and make the whole piece look like it belongs together.

:-) Russell D. Drake replies: "Ya know what, I think your right. I was going for a really soft look in the smoke but a harsher, more defined look would probably look much better. Thanks for the advice."
