Masked Warrior is a study in shading technique I tried out. I tried to get the armor to appear as a smooth metal as best as I could. Additionally it was the challenge of doing a version of plate armor on a woman. Definitely fun. No I didn't really finish the eyes and detail around the face. Again it was mostly an exercise in shading. Ryan
All I can say is, "WOW!!!!!!!" Wonderful Job!! One of my favorites.. Keep up the great work! Ryan W Hurst replies: "Thank you very much! I really love how the armor came out!"
Her head is a little small/out of proportion to the rest of the body. Great shading! Ryan W Hurst replies: "Thank you for the compliment on the shading! That was the primary focus of the drawing. But just for the record, the head isn't disproportionate, it is a combination of the fact that her head isn't armored and that I didn't shade the face. Sort of an optical illusion. Anyway, I hope you like it overall!"
Oh! A female warrior in full plate! It's a rare masterpiece! I REALLY like your pic! Finally a female warrior that actually looks like a Warrior! Ryan W Hurst replies: "Thank you!!! That is a wonderful comment! I was thinking along similar lines when I started the drawing, thinking "you know there aren't many heavily armored women." I'm working on another one as a matter of fact, hopefully I'll get that up sometime in 2003!"

Does she *wind* it on?! Ryan W Hurst replies: "Hehe! Well, actually that's up to you, the viewer...that's one of the cool things about art! You get to let your imagination fill in the blanks!"
Dewd... This is really good stuff... Great detail - must've taken quite some time, eh? Anyways, it was a cool idea for "female" armor. Love the helmet! Ryan W Hurst replies: "Thank you, man! I appreciate it very much! Yes, the shading took me a couple weeks in about 1 hour bits if I remember right. So maybe 10-12 hours for the shading? Anyway, I love genuine comments like yours. I also really like your work, I especially like the detail you have in your young paladin pic!"
You can sense the smoothness of the plate, versus the grain of the chain mail beneath it in this image. I also like the helm design and you have a wonderderful shading technique! I've added this to my Amazing Armor tour! Ryan W Hurst replies: "Wow! I really appreciate what you comment on, because that's what try so hard to do. Shade, shade and shade some more. I'm going to have to check out your "amazing armor tour" as well and I very much appreciate being added to anything like that. Also, I've looked at your work and I have to say that Darkseide pic really jumped out at me. I especially like the expression you've put on him...great work. I'll keep checking back!!!"

Hey! I love this drawing! You have beautiful shading technique and I was just wondering what you use (e.g. pencil, etc.) I want to try it out for myself, so I hope I wouldn't be a bother if you could reply as soon as possible. Thanks a lot!!!

Hey, this is a great piece. I really enjoyed looking at it. If you ever finish her face, I'd love to know so I can see it. She's great altogether. Really love the shading.

Oh my God! No she has something on her! Gawd you're boring, seriously, this is fantasy, why would she need anything more then metal piercings on her nipples...(please add a sarcastic tone to the above comment!)
