SciFi and Fantasy Art: The Scarecrow

This is an illustration from 'Poison' by Chris Wooding, done for a school project.  The book features a creature called the Scarecrow, which puts humans to sleep with its silver bell and strange flakes of an unknown substance.  Poison has a bestiary containing a woodcut of the creature, which is what this is supposed to be.

Done in pen and ink.

*first comment dance* nicely done! I love the striped "texture" you put into it! Congrats on the mod’s choice2

2 Sarah Fogg replies: "Thanks, although the texture is sort of a by-product of the medium more than my particular style."

ah, a great deal of detailed pen strokes in this one. I like how the scarecrow is enveloped in his own halo.. adds to the malevolence and mystery of the being. Lovely intricate work, well done on the Mods Choice - maXine 1

2 Sarah Fogg replies: "Thanks very much."

Good job! I admire artists having enough patience to take the best out of media such as ink. People above me already praised your pen strokes but I have to repeat them and say that the strokes look fantastic.

2 Sarah Fogg replies: "Thanks, it really doesn’t take as much patience as you might think though, after a while it gets into a sort of rhythm and really doesn’t take much concentration."

Unfortunately, to me at least, it looks more like an etching rather then a wood block print. there is no denying the goodness of it, just doesn’t look like wood block to me. Sorry.

21 Sarah Fogg replies: "Guah, I know... I thought so too when I drew it. I meant to put that in the description but clearly I forgot, brain like a teabag. Thanks for commentng."
