SciFi and Fantasy Art: Freya

Freya, the Norse Earth-goddess, is a warrior goddess as well as a fertility deity. She is shown here with the three creatures sacred to her; cat, swallow and cuckoo. Acrylic. The original was too large for my scanner and was first reduced on a colour photocopier which reduced the quality somewhat.

Yes, I am yet *another* Freya. I've researched my name extensivly - she is the Norse godess of love, beauty and fertility. Yet she is also associated with battle - she picked half the slain warriors in battle to dine in the hall of Vahalla. She was also strongly associated with sex and selfishness. Her weakness was her love of jewels, and she slept with four dwafs in order to obtain the Brismgamen(sp?) necklace. I remember hearing about the cats that drew her chariot but nothing about the swallow. And I've read that shes the typical Norse girl - blonde and blue eyed.

I think that this painting is an absolute dissapointment! Freya is supposed to be a beautiful goddess, not some ugly old bush hag!!! She is supposed to be the goddess of love and passion, not a hunter with a beard who hasn't washed himself for a week. I just dont like it!!! But hey . . . Its just my opinion. Im sure many people love this painting.

Why is Freya such an uncommon name? Not even one mention on recent Sweden/Norway top 100 lists. Is this fashion or taboo?
As for the picture... sorry, it doesn't work for me. It reminds me of Jolly Alice, not a goddess governing human sexuality and eroticism.

There is a more idealized painting of "frea" in a book about runes published by Element.
I'm trying to find this painting on the net right now.

no what, i think it's your style....im tired of weirdos going about saying...."well its not realistic", or "anime is'nt like that".every unique person draws and paints a special way. your style just is that way.now this certain painting isnt MY style and i wouldnt draw something like it but for YOUR style....it's fantastic!♥
