SciFi and Fantasy Art: Pegasus (Celtic style)

The Pegasus doesn't appear in Celtic art or myth, but I designed this based on a Celtic represenation of a horse, combined with the image of a winged bull from the Book of Kells. I originally created this design for painting onto a bodhran (gaelic drum). This version was coloured on computer.

Very nice. The wings remind me more of some ancient persian art of seen. The overall effect is wonderful. Could we see the actual finnished bohdran?

This is so wierd... I just finish Irish fiddle practice and this is the first Elfwood picture I see. SOOOOO COOL! You are right it looks exactly like a Celtic pegasus. Love the wings and the color combo! Keep up the good work- and could you put up a picture of the finished bohran???

I'm not so sure that winged bull from the book of kells was neccessarily of celtic origen either - possibly the winged bull that garded the gates of babilon or even mythras ... But post christian era celtic - as in the book of kells - often makes me wonder how those embellishments and illuminations were viewed by the patrons who commissioned those monkish scribes - personaly i prefer to think of prechristian tuatha de in their uncorrupted purity - but then again - well lots of then agains ... Every established order was once an upstart challanger to a previous one - or so it seems ... ~12

Oh wow! I absolutely LOVE Celtic style! The color combo is great with the bold colors, and the wings are very unique! This just carried me away. Can I use this as an inspiration? So far this is the only Celtic drawing I've seen. Beautiful work!
not trying offend you or anything, but I think you should try coloring the pegasus with color pencils. For some reason, I think it'll look better. Just seems that having color pencils for coloring gives off a more unique effect. Oh yes! Why don't you try to keep the colors the same shade? I've noticed some parts look darker. I think having colors stay the same will make the picture more old-fashioned (If you want it to be). I'm no expert, I'm just typing what I think is reasonable! 1

It's gorgeous ! The colors are perfect fot this patern. I agree with Lisa Andersen : as a jewel, it would be grandiose.
