SciFi and Fantasy Art: The Gray Man

This is a sketch I doodled out that has made his way into several of my games. He ended up pretty skinny, but I liked that quality. It gave him a flexible, agile quality despite his haggard form.

this is a very good pic, but one thing bothers me........ the right arm seems to be twisted a wee bit too much..... but maybe he is double jointed or something...... ANYHOO! This is a dang good picture of someone over 30! (Any person I draw either becomes a Chibi or a 15 year old....;.;4 Keep up the good work!

He comes off looking crafty. A thief I suppose. Very good with the expression. The look on his face denotes his manipulativeness.

Heyas, Ferlyn here. Anywho, it's very nice, except the finger seems a little large. No big deal, but it just sort of caught my eye. whatever.

Grey Man.. It's a perfect depiction of an evil character in "The Wheel of Time" series by Robert Jordan, Good work!

:-) Sean C. Riley replies: "*shrugs* If it is, it wasn't intended that way. I've never read The Wheel of Time. But if he works for your mental image of said villain, great! Glad to help! 2"

I found this picture very interesting. When I saw it I immediately pictured him performing an array of drunken boxing moves. Are those kunai in his hand?

:-) Sean C. Riley replies: "Ummm...heck if I know. I just based them off of the design of many a throwing blade I've seen in various anime and video games."

This has a good dramatic pose, but a couple things I noticed were the index finger on his left hand is a bit too long. If it were extended straight out, the fingertip seems to go far beyond the tips of the other fingers.

Second, the right hand could use some more definition. I at first had a hard time figuring out just what he was holding, because the lack of value contrast made the forms seem blurred together. Add some shading on the fingers and highlights on those metal things and it should turn out better.

Other than that, great job.

:-) Sean C. Riley replies: "You're absolutely right...but I wouldn't expect it to ever happen. I never really thought much about this before I drew it. It just sort of...happened. It was good and weird enough to use for RPGs, and so eventually made its way here. It certainly isn't my best piece, but the rough qualities are some of what I like about it. I don't mind that he's overly skinny, bent wrong, and a bit deformed...in the end it adds to his character."
