| 30 Dec 2000 | Tasha Kotraseva aka Isca Lox | I like that! Nice work, I especially like the mask of the guy on the right. | |
| 18 Jun 2001 | Joann L. Shipp | Just looking at them makes me weep. So beautiful. You really convey a lot in this picture. Magistrate - Cutthroat, but looks like the time type that wouldn't do his own dirty work or lift a finger to commit a crime personally. Nice. Kind of arrogant and pompous looking. Female Retainer - Seductive, deadly like a cobra. Male Retainer - Nasty evil, henchman style with that mask. Superb! Sean C. Riley replies: "You hit the nail right on the head! Though the ninja henchman isn't so nasty and evil...he just plays that role. Believe it or not, he's actually something of a tragic figure." | |
| 9 Aug 2001 | Ryan M. Roye | dam your shading is just awesome... I just think to myself how the hell I can even get remotley close to doing that | |
| 24 Jul 2002 | Last Samurai | This is gorgeous. Everything from the facial expressions to the different mood each character gives. HOWEVER to be accurate, the sheathed blades should be bending the other direction cause the blade is up when resting in it's scabbard. Sean C. Riley replies: "Thank you for your comments. As for the accuracy of the picture, I refer you to my intro notes on my main page. I realize the inaccuracies of the work, but most of these were drawn before I learned of the custom." | |
| 17 Nov 2002 | Nikkicub | My favorite part of this one is the woman's headdress thingy. It's burned in my brain now. | |
| 13 Dec 2002 | Molly-chan | The woman is great. I think it would be a wonderful idea to draw an individual portrait of her. She just seems so interesting all by herself. The same idea would actually work with any of them, they are all so well drawn. Sean C. Riley replies: "Check out "Fire & Shadow" for an individual pic of the one on the right...though in a different outfit entirely." | |
| 24 Aug 2004 | Anonymous | Not to perpetuate the reality aspect that you cautioned against, but actually, your blade angles are fine. The Japanese were not the only ones to make swords. Specifically, the Koreans were fond of the edge towards the ground. Even in L5R, they take that into consideration because if not the Kakita duelists would have a hard time with the single strike from the sheath-ed position. I know you don't want to hear about "realism" but I just thought you should know that technically, you're right, fantasy aside. Oh, and the Scorpion clan rocks! ) | |
| 9 Mar 2006 | Isawa Nazomitsu | I can easily see this as the cover art for a novel or RPG supplement. The more I look at it the more I want to know about these characters and their adventures as they carry out their duties. It's a great picture! | |
| 29 Nov 2006 | Darth Vegeta | Nice one. Scorps make the most interesting chars in L5R. And i really like their design. | |
