SciFi and Fantasy Art: The Dreaming Tree
Concept Proposal by Daniel Sottile. Used with permission.
Every person has a dreaming tree ona high hill on the edge of the world. Every fantasy, every prayer, wish, hope, or desire hangs on the tree as a prism, or a mirror, each of those a flower from the tree. If that person begins to fail, through becoming cynical, through anger, or through despair, their dreaming tree begins to die, mirrors and prismes shatter, littering the ground with treacherous shards. And as their dreaming tree dies, in essence, that person dies also, for what is a human being with no hope, no wish for a potential future.
Daniel Sottile, who proposed the concept (in part) told a story of a man whos tree reaches the brink of destruction. In his cynicism and despair, his tree is reduced to but one tiny mirror, as his belief in infinite futures is soured and destroyed. But through chance encounters, and his own long-denied faith in the world, the tree is brought to full blossom. The tree represented here is that tree, healthy, and bursting with potential and beauty.
