SciFi and Fantasy Art: Basking

A lesser wyvern enjoying a mid-afternoon sunbake. Lesser wyverns are small, about the size of a small kingfisher and, like the kingfisher, hunt fish in lakes and streams. They are mainly ambush hunters, diving from their perch onto an unsupecting morsal. However they are also excelent swimmers, their tails have addapted in a fin like shape for extra speed. Like all wyverns the lesser wyvern are feircely territorial. The males are particulary zealous during the mating season where territoral disputes are common and can lead to death.

wow...simply wow...I love the shading on this piece, and also that you aren't using lines....great work!!

:-) Shelz Keast replies: "Nature deosn't have lines, so to make something look realistic don't add them 2"

Either you made some changes to this, or the notification that someone updated is super slow! :c) It does look darker than I remember.

:-) Shelz Keast replies: "It got cropped a bit. That’s all."

Wow, very interesting... I can’t think of anything else to say, really! It’s very good and it’s a really nice concept. The feathers are really amazing, so much detail! I like the face, too, such a viscious expression, hehe. I like the wings and the tail being similiar and I never really pictured wyvrens with feathers... beautiful, super picture!

:-) Shelz Keast replies: "There are dragon’s with feathers, so why not feathered wyverns? I never thought that the wyvern’s expression was vicious, maybe a bit temperamental."

:-) Shelz Keast replies: "A passing interest in Bio. More interested in making feild notes and such. "
