SciFi and Fantasy Art: Hippogryph Warrioress-Mage

A friend of mine had a contest to draw a gryphon, or gryphon kin and this is what I came up with. Her name means 'Shadows chasing Sunlight' and she is a warrioress-mage. Her dragon wings are a mutation and the stripes mark her as a warrior. The making on her rump shows that she is a mange and is dedicated to keeping the balance between good and evil. Finally the feathers show that she has mastered the four main elements, earth, fire, water and air. I am pleased with her overall, a few things that could be better but considering I don't draw many gryphons. *g* Done in ink and my new prismacolour pencial crayons that I love a lot.

You use your prismacolors very well considering this is one of your first pieces in prisma's . The only things that I can see that could be better is , you should have layered the shadows a little darker in the wing . Much like you did on the body . I think it would have made the picture look more realistic . The next thing is a little trick that I learned to do with prismacolors , to really get good highlights color the areas where you want the highlights in white ( BEFORE any other color , you will need a good light to see what you are doing ) then go over the white with the main body color ( in this case yellow ) . The body color will be sevral shades lighter where the white was , and it will add alot of depth ( to see what I am talking about check out my ' Fallen Angel ' pic , I did this throughout the entire picture ). The more that you use your prismacolors , the more little tricks you will learn , and you'll learn your own style for using them . Overall this is a really good picture , and you did a very good job with it .

Hmm. No real comments on the coloring. It looks fine. I'd say it's a little short in the body, though, possibly weird in the shoulder area. Oh, and unimportantly, the fetlocks remind me strangely of bellbottoms.

Now thats a very orginal take on a Hipogryph. The tiger stripes look cool too.

I likes, but if you don't mind me saying... THe way the fur and feathers 'hang' makes it look sorta like she's wearin' 'em steada covered with it. *shruggs* But it is spiffy, 'specially for a first try with Prismas and an early attempt at gryffs. =^_^=

Hello Aurora, 'tis Vega here! This is a very nice picture (hey, first time I see 'Rora doing gryphons!), the colours are beautiful! Only thing is, her head looks too big in proportion to the rest of her body. It looks a bit out-of-sync, but maybe it's only me. Thanks for visiting my gallery too! Great stuff, keep it up. <G>

*ohhs at all the comments already* Some good idea's, thanks everyone, will have to try the white thing 2 *grins* a Hippygryph? I do see that she isn't purfectly drawn but considering the only other decent gryphon was copied for a school thing o.O *ponders* that's an intesting idea..a gryphon wearing feathers..

Very nice Aurora! Love the way you colored her. *muses* Though the back end seems pretty short; I would have made it longer. But other than that, it's good! My favorite sketch you've done so far ~_^

It's pretty good, especially the wing. The back half seems a little short, but otherwise it's good. I likes it. ^_^
