SciFi and Fantasy Art: Formal Sword

I'm not sure it's possible for Elfwood to have too many swords. Don't expect the average adventurer to carry this one, though. The fine workmanship, the polished surfaces, the unblemished edges --- this is a blade fit for formal events and affairs of state.

Oooh... such wonderful textures... I love the engraving, and the way the sharpened edge has a totally different texture than the blade, just like in real life... and the marble handle...and the Norman style crossguard... and the well-defined fuller... and...

I love it!! It's very picture perfect... almost like you could reach out and touch it. I'd be too afraid to get fingerprints on it though... lol

This is wonderful! Since I'm a casual meddler with 3dsmax, I know how hard it is to do such a thing... but I must ask... the edge seems a bit... screwed... (it's the materials that's messing with you, right?)... anyways... *jealous*...

:-) Skip Moore replies: "The edges came out more or less as planned, but there's room for improvement. I was going for that "filed/ground" look rather than a "polished" look on the very edge and there's a fine line between "subtle" and "invisible" depending upon how you set the material parameters..."

Wow! I love the textures and the reflections. I find that it's really difficult to make reflections look realistic.
