No matter how hard he tried, Krystallin knew he was deceiving himself. No matter how hard he tried, you just couldn't forget someone like Lainamyr.

In Aryneth, failing to keep someone in rememberance brings them back, so to speak, in some way, shape, or form. Which is why Krystallin wants to forget his long-lost best friend, Lainamyr, but he can't, with this image constantly burned into his memory. The forest where they grew up, and her waiting for him. That fairly indistinguishable dark blob in her hand is a figurine that she had made of Krystallin, of him as a grand warrior, something he always aspired to be.
