SciFi and Fantasy Art: Leviathan's battle

This was originally an ink preliminary for a woodcut print I was going to do for a beginning printmaking class in college. I never did the cut but with a little clean up and coloring in photoshop these once mythic creatures have come back to life. Some would say that this doesn't qualify as high fantasy but I ask you all, has any living human ever seen such a battle? It has never been observed in detail by mankind and yet we know from the contents of sperm whale stomachs and from telltale scars on their hide that such magnificent and heroic battles occur.

no comments yet? how sad.. this was by far the most memorable one of your works I've come across so far. Granted, all are beautiful, but this one makes a greater, more unique statement than the rest 2 It had me paused thinking...

Isn't Leviathan suppose to be a sea serpent and not a sperm whale...?

a Leviathan is a mastive ocean creature ... such as the giant squid and sperm whale ... mastive

Though I like the picture as a whole, I think the waves look like little drops. I have this thought of two animals fighting in a water glass. Anyway, you did a good job on this.

Hmmm...reminds me of They Might Be Giants cover of Apollo 18! Full of nifty goodness!

Impressive! Now if I'm not mistaken, that giant squid is no longer quite a mistery. Well, what I mean is, it does exsist.

I don't wanna be a jerk about this, but something like this has actually been witnessed by whalers way back in the days when whaling was a noble way to make a living (before we nearly wipped them out). Although, not from that angle 2

There is only one recorded siting of a Sperm whale/ Giant Squid "battle", and the whaler who saw it is long dead. But it's a beautiful pic. Would you mind if I used it as stained glass pattern? Just a single small piece for my window? I absoulutly adore cetaceans!

You don't see many sperm whales around the woods. . . I think it's fantasy, but in it's own magnificent way. How many people have seen this battle, and how many people have seen a live giant squid? Not too many! Keep it up!
