SciFi and Fantasy Art: Impetuousness of Youth/Temperance of Experience

Satoru, the emperor's blademaster was asked by Kochiro, his most promising pupil:

'Master, if an accomplished samurai of a warring clan stood before you, with an arrow knocked in his longbow, a bo at his feet and a no-dachi strapped to his back, his daisho at his waist and kama on his thighs, which of his weapons would you fear most?'

Satoru blinked but once, then responded:

'The dagger hidden in his robes.'

With that little proverb that came to my head one day, the relationship between Raeshumoto Satoru and his pupil would take root and grow, both becoming major players in the world around them. This card, from the same deck-that-was-in-design as the 'Loyalty/Jealousy' card, represents how rash inexperience can be, as Kochiro immediately draws his sword (and even holds it in an incorrect, Hollywood-style way) at the first sign of danger while the elder, more mature Satoru keeps his sheathed.

I dug this card out because of people's interest in the other I had posted. This one came first and is a bit less defined than the latter. It's dividing point between the two characters is more straight and the colors leave a little to be desired. Having the colored background on 'top' (I could rotate the card, I suppose) also makes it seem top-heavy and the general water-coloresque effects aren't as well done. Still, I figured people might enjoy another example. I will see if I can track down the ones I gave people, if people are interested...

I would definitely be interested in seeing more of these cards. So far this is the only one I have seen but I like it a lot. Good work and interesting juxtoposition of master and student.

I would definetly like to see some more. I like the juxaposition you've got themed throughout here. As to the card game you really shouldn't give up if you like the idea. Someone I know finally got his printed and it's recently taken off. Although it did take him five years to perfect it and it works on numbers not pictures. Oh, dear I've wandered of the topic haven't I. Thanks for visiting my gallery and yes the water in my pic did take a while several layer in photoshop to be exact. E-mail me when the rest of your cards get put on.

this is a hoot - this is so absolutely wonderful - not the youth age thing that simpler minds might not see past but the - well sort of goes beyond words explaining but the opening of ones own eyes as opposed to relying upon assumption - the disfunctionality of biligerance - neither of which are as totaly accurate to say as how wonderfuly well this illustrates what i see in it - something so out of what we come everyday to expect hence the unexpected outburst of humor - i don't know if such a genius exists who could complete all of the major archana in this fassion - such a deck were it to exist would be a priceless treasure ... ~12

This is a really cool pic, but I thought the word was "impetuosity".
