SciFi and Fantasy Art: Magister

Ok, I shouldn't do it........ but I just can't resist. It's not fantasy, you know.. It's sooooo close to fan art, you know !? heheee.. so just for once ! Just one pict from the 2 hundred tons I'm working on. Promiss ... And you know the worst thing about this ? The books are not even translated in english ! Mwahahaa.. Anyway, this is my first sketch of Magister Nicolas Eymerich - suspicious, as always - from Valerio Evangelisti's excellent books.

this is the best one on this entire site. For real. No joke. Maybe you wanted it this way, but I think It would feel more complete if you can balance out the dark robe with the face and hand a little bit. It almost looks like you have two differnt styles competing. Maybe if you lightend up on the hood or something. Or you could add a little bit heavy dark stroke to the face. I make the brow darker maybe. Anyway thankyou for not making my visit to this site a total waste of time. I was beginning to think that I would never see anything of near quality. Also dont make the signature so big and that other writing. That only takes away from the main portion.

:-) Sophie 'SoMK' M.Klesen replies: "Well, at first thanks for the compliment though I think you're harsh on a LOT of extremely talented artists around here (cf my plugs and Richard Lanke's ones and many others I don't even know, blame huge elfwood)... but anyway, thanks for the compliment. As for the "unbalanceness" of the whole thing, yeah sure.. it's a sketch you know. I didn't go further, those sketches were for fun and my main goal actually is to turn them into figurines. As for the Stamp and the Copyright to Valerio, I say again that I just published those roughs "as they are".. I don't intend to make them "good", "balanced" and all... I draw without kidding between 10 and 20 of those everyday. Those are not finalized works and never will be 2 they are pre-production sketches and as I publish on the web something created after reading Valerio's books, it was plain logical to stamp the roughs with the guy's name 2 *the fact that he's too cute to be real, doesn't count of course....*ducks**"

Work from written sources isn't considered fan art - only from graphic sources. So if this is from a description in a noval it's just fine here.

You're not half bad y'know. Love the fluidness of your sketches. Hands/fingers nicely done too.

:-) Sophie 'SoMK' M.Klesen replies: "ehehehe thanks a lot 2"

This piece has an excellent classical style to it that reminds me of the ink sketches of the master painters in the 17th century. Partially the detail to the face and hands, partially the subject's appearence; it works so very well.

:-) Sophie 'SoMK' M.Klesen replies: "Thanks a lot for this comment 2 I feel very flattered *looks for a place to put the flowers* That's one of my fav picts, I tend to work more loosely. Some would say I'm not that obsessed with details now, I'd say I'm getting lazier 1"

He reminds me of a Grand Inquisitor, sorta. (Haven't read the series.)

:-) Sophie 'SoMK' M.Klesen replies: "Right on the nose, Nicola Eymerich was the Grand Inquisitor of Aragon 14"

(whistles) Well, that is definitively Eymerich ! What a job you've done here ! He really fits Evangelisti's description. I'm a big fan of those novels so of course, I love your work. It serves the character very well.
