SciFi and Fantasy Art: What's the Matter?

This was probably the first serious facial study I completed in a manga style, and it shows. I was pleased with this unhappy-looking peasant girl when I first drew the picture, but the more I look at it, the more I don't like the right side of the face. It's too lumpy. I do like the expression and the hair. It looks messy and unkempt, which is what I was going for. Why does she look so sad, you ask? Perhaps it was the physical manifestation of my own feelings the day I drew it.

I agree with Jessica. I want to donate to UNICEF in the name of this girl! Hmm... the right side of her face (as you look at it on screen) is just a bit too far away from her eye. It doesn't match the other side. I think that's where you're getting your lumpy impression from.
