SciFi and Fantasy Art: Kreshkatara

The Injasura are 12 beasts of unimaginable power. According to legend, they seal a gate that leads to the realm of the Daityas. In order to forbid mortals from entering this place, and the Daityas from entering our world, the Gods used the lifeforces of the Injasura to bar the gate. It is said that each of them draws strength from one of 12 sacred stars.

Kreshkatara, He Who Lights the Way, is the 3rd Injasura. He draws his strength from the star Hexa Miraba. Like Shukunaru, Kreshkatara tests those whom the Gods have chosen. Unlike Shukunaru, Kreshkatara's duty is to return those heros who have fallen, because of folly, inaction, or suffering, back upon the Path of Righteousness. This, he does with gusto.

Hoping not to come across as a know-it-all... but as a big Monkey fan: romanized spellings vary, but Sun Wu-Kung is the Monkey King of Chinese Buddhist mythology, Sun meaning "monkey". In Japan this is pronounced as Son Goku, or sometimes "Sengoku" (this is also the "dragonball" connection). Myself, I don't know if Sun Wu-Kung is featured as a part of Indian Buddhism, or what his name would be... -is- it Kreshkatara Stanton?

:-) Stanton F. Fink replies: "I remember I went to this one site about world mythology, and when I was in the Chinese section, reading about the Monkey King... When it mentioned how he turned into a giant ape in the light of the full moon, the site's credibility was irrevocably destroyed for me. (As you remember, that ONLY occurred with Goku, of Dragonball fame.) Sun Wu-Kung was a Chinese invention to help explain how the Sutras of Buddhism were brought to China, and has no real Indian Buddhist counterpart. However, I'm thinking that he may have been greatly influenced by the various Hindu legends of fabulous monkeys, like, Hanuman, or Bali (the monkey king, not the demon). And Injasura Kreshkatara is my own invention, though he's heavily influenced by aforementioned monkeys."

Just a little bit more monkey knowledge to add to this veritable warehouse:
Son Goku - Japanese version, born from the earth, more a demon than a monkey. In the anime 'Gensomaden Saiyuki' he looks like a human child.
Sun Wukong - Chinese version, half-human, half-monkey. In several shows i have seen, he looks like a man with badly put on makeup and misplaced wigs.

Both carry sticks. (Son Goku = Almighty Staff, Wukong = Golden Pole) Both have huge appetites. Both help and are helped by monks.

*lol* Monks and monkeys... Does Kreshkatara have a monk friend?

:-) Stanton F. Fink replies: "Not exactly... He tends to play the part of "Trickster as Teacher," ergo, he's his own monk, so to speak."

There seem to be many people that know a lot about monkeys...I know less about them than I know about platypuses....platypi...er...platypod?
(I'm chagrined...I just realized that I misspelled platypus on someone else's gallery....either that or I just misspelled it here)

Looks like one of the flying monkey from the Wizard Of Oz,only without wings....No, they were bigger, and bulkier, like chimpanzees.

Yes this monkey is awesome I love it and I want to take it home and teach it how to speak Spanish. Then I will take it too the zoo to make more monkey friends and it will be so fun and I'd get a souvinier, a monkey toy that is and It will be great.
