SciFi and Fantasy Art: The Dragon Ladies
And be there lords be there ladies!
Presenting the Four Dragon Ladies of the Eight Flights of Irlatar. As I said in the previous pic, this was first a project of mine to create more original and unique head designs for my dragonkind. So, as I struck an artistic vein, I couldn't just let these dragons be without a story. So, they're a part of my story Azure Serpent. The dragons are disappearing mysteriously, the flights are gathering to the High Council, the bureaucrats ruling Irlatar are putting the blame on the magicians and slaughtering them without a second thought, though they need their powers to protect their realm from the mage-winds coming across the sea from Eäntar, as a result of Sherfraláthi and Kilorenethán blowing each other to pieces. All my stories are linked, you see.
Well, enough about my novels-to-be. You are probably not interested anyway.
For the silver lady down in the bottom left corner over there, I wanted a not-too-overcrowded-but-still-not-stereotype-design. So I plated her back and gave her antenna-like horns and leathery web connecting them. She's that kind of pretty-but-not-stupid-dragon. Yeah, just have a look at her grin!
And then we have the green lady over there. She's got antennaes! I wanted a forest-related dragon as well, and she suited the role perfectly. It's hard to see, but her eye starts out as red and does gradually turn yellow in the edges. I think of green Ireland when I see her, Ireland and the Celts. Though sadly, I've never been to Ireland...
The red madame is my favourite. I had do give her some patterns, a freaky crest on each side of her head, a red-purple frill running down her spine and a large spot of soft skin under her eye. Rawr! She's a warrior of heart and mind, and a crafted battle-mage as well!
The white lady gave me trouble. I did at first have no idea of her color, but then a friend suggested white, to contrast te black lord on the previous pic. I agreed, but had ran out of horn ideas. Then I thought Dammit! Note of them have ram horns! And ram horns it was. It suited her well, I think. She looks kind. And I like her crest! I gave her pastel colors to compliment the white, and black belly and eyeskin to contrast it.
I have neither made up their names or their story yet. As I've mentioned somewhere, I'm working at a trilogy called the Eye of Athrysta, and having Azure Serpent running side by side with this is a little disturbing. One story at the time. But I get a lot of good ideas, and I scribble them down in my notepad for later use. When The Eye of Athrysta-trilogy has come to an end, this trilogy, christened When Dragons Die, come to life. I must just find the time.
