SciFi and Fantasy Art: Dragon Practice

So I sat here sketching just the other day - and as always, when I watch TV I bring my sketch book with me.

I thought I was quite bad on dragon legs, so I rew a front leg I quite liked and a back leg for a more brutish, beast-like dragon. And suddenly a muse dropped a great, golden nugget down in my head, and a wave of inspiration flowed into me. I drew a spade tail that was not  quite an ordinary spade tail with some funny patterns, and I made up a possible tail for an avian dragon that I think turned out quite well.

And after I had done the avian tail, I suddenly had to do  a dragon with a sexy, feathered crest. I don't think he likes  it,though, - it looks like he is going to skin me alive for putting feathers atop his head. But he turned out so cute!

And after the head and the tail I wanted to make a leg for an avian dragon. I made a mix of lion paws and eagle claws, added some feathery tufts at the elbow joint and scaled the arm. Me like it^^

*does first comment dance*I like the tail with the spike! I can’t wait to see how he turns out when he had a body!Lol!!!!!

:-) Mie 'Stormwing' Bendiksby replies: "Don’t dare to draw him with a body =P Then he’d have a greater chance to get off the paper and fulfill his revenge xD"

Oh, I love all those feathers! I really love it all...
Well, the only thing is that I wonder... If you should draw a really realistic dragon, it should maybe not have lots of unnecessary pretty stuff, then you should maybe think of why he needs that and that, and what accesories he should have to protect it, if you know what I mean.... But don`t get me wrong, I have never seen a dragon, I don`t know, and in art there is always pretty and unnecessary stuff anyway, but... I thought you could maybe have it in mind when you created new dragons and stuff, just as a little advice.
My dad always asks me out about that stuff, and it has kinda helped me thinking realistic fantasy ^_^

Keep up the great work, Stormwing!!!

:-) Mie 'Stormwing' Bendiksby replies: "I know, I know. But this guy, you know, is out for the ladies =3 They like pretty feathered crests! Even though HE dont xD

I usually think like that when I create my beasts, so that I don’t get a horde of furred battle dragons with fancy crests. But thanks anyway, I’ll keep in mind!"
