Before the intro begins, let me just inform you about some changes I've made in my gallery:
OOD - Simply Out-Of-Date. Drawings marked with OOD in the title is not up with my current skills.
WOOD - Way-Out-Of-Date. Pictures that are more out of date than the OODs, that is WAY out of what I can now.
The WOODs might be taken down any time, whenever I feel for it. The OODs get to live a little longer, but sooner or later I will take them down as well, as I feel they don't represent my current skills.
Hiya! I'm Mie! Mie from Norway - a land faaar up in the north. After returning from sun-baked Florida, I was quite in shock to see that spring hadn't come to Norway yet - as it was when I left - but had snowed down.
My mother owns and works at a riding school, and me and (nearly) my whole family lives there. Except an uncle with his family and some grandparents.
Since a large farm is included in the riding school, I have tons of forests to roam, some and twenty budgerigars, three cockatiels, some ducks, hens and pheasants. I also have a fish tank and a Danish sport pony named Hannah.
I have a high-running, fantasy-packed mind up running all the time, and I've begun sorting my ideas into novels. My current work is a trilogy called When Dragons Die (I have quit the Gryphonriders for a while).
I also write lots of short stories that I never finish or are too lazy to translate to English. If I do, though, I'll sign up for the Wyvern's.
But, as I'm an artist and not a writer, let's talk about my art!
I've drawn since I could hold a pencil - it all began with dinosaurs. I drew t-rexes and triceratopses and brontosauruses and - well, literally every dinosaur from A to Z.
Then, seven years of age, I drew my very first gryphon! I've kept it ever since. Click here to view it. At first, I didn't know it was a gryphon, and called it a Rakcyei (yep, I had very fun with exotic letters when I was that young xD), but then I rented a book of mythical creatures at the library, and it was then my gryphomania began.
I explored the world of art more and more, experimented with different medias and found my strenghts and weaknesses.
Until late 2007, I didn't put a shade on my drawings, I didn't add a single muscle, and I cared next to nought about anatomy. (Click to see an early 2007 gryphon). Then I bought Jessica "NeonDragon" Peffer's art books, and my skills improved greatly.
I begun to ink, but scuffled away from shading. Then I started to experiment with pencil coloring, but stopped it quickly. Early 2008, I stopped inking most of my drawings and tightened up the linework with my mechanical pencil instead. I also shaded a lot more, and have tried a few twists with colored pencils, though my scanner kills all the details ><
I got a tablet for Christmas, and have found the joy of digital coloring, though I still prefer pencils and paper.
And for my birthday I got a 24 set of Tria Markers, and I bought 74 in the US, so I have 98 in total =3 Soon there'll be some marker drawings up going here too!
I'm still extremely lame on backgrounds, though. And humans. And faces. And hands.
No, the mythical creatures for me!
If anybody is interested, I might do art-trades, collaborations and requests, as long as I have time for it! Send me a mail or a private message if you're interested.
I'm a girl, aged 15, with birthday the 5th of March, born in 1993 and am also left-handed, if anybody should care.
Stormwing is my web alias, an ebony gryphoness shaman the size of a draft horse. She's also my avatar over there - made in freehand with markers.
I would be very happy if you left a comment or two - but please, please write seriously! I can't stand W00t, u r bd-comments and the like.
I'll be very happy if your comment held some advices for how I can best improve my art, links to good tutorials or anything you might find interesting to tell me!
And hey, if you happen to be Norwegian or understand Norwegian, don't hesitate to leave me a comment! Or if you are a Heralds of Valdemar-fan, I'd like to share a word with you! I bought the remaining 17 books in the US, and have completed the whole series. Haven't read all, though.
Also, new point - there's been a lot of people asking if I can help them how to draw. There's nothing wrong with it; I feel rather honored that people consider me as a possibility. But I can't make your art for you - I can only tell you my opinion. And I'm 15, with no education and little anatomy knowledge to base my judgement on.
If you want me to check out your art, fine, post a link to your website. Once. ONLY ONCE! If you post page up and page down, screaming "Visit my webpage! Visit my webpage!", it repels me off. Take care, because that kind of advertisement irritates me greatly. You are now warned.
~Mie
