SciFi and Fantasy Art: Proginoskes

Proginoskes the Cherubim, from Madeline L'Engle's 'The Wind in the Door'. I read it in 5th grade, and took the description of such a creature as a personal challenge to illustrate it. Yes, he's a Cherubim, as in plural of cherub. He's also ... sort of ... a dragon, but only in that he has wings and puffs fire and smoke. Knows all the names of the stars, and is terribly smug about it.

Wow! I just finished reading the part about Proginoskes last night! This was great! But... weren't his wings white? Oh well. It still is great!!!

I love your picture, I think you did a great job blending pure digital with the photographic (or at least, what appears photographic) I found this picture when I was looking for pictures of Proginoskes, to see if Elfwood would accept him. Well, as it turns out, my version is apparently "too abstract". Sad, but at least we have yours here.

Thanks. ~_~ I hate to hear that they wouldn't accept your version . I think you can challenge the moderators if you want... The rules are rather fuzzy. I, for one, would love to see your version.

I didn't envision Progo anything like this but it's very beautiful!

i love the different eyes and swirl of the feathers- makes Progo seem so cosmic. I never could really wrap my entire mind around what he looked like, but thisseems to fit very nicely. I'm surprised it didn't get a mod's choice, it has the clear, clean, nicely/brightly colored look they tend to like..o well, their choices so often seem to be picked out of a hat.

I am amazed at how you can depict how proginoskes puffs smoke.i have recently tried to draw my own version of the cherubim but i cant draw it as well as you.

I love her books! I almost like A WIND IN THE DOOR better than A WRINKLE IN TIME. Nice illustration. Not how I envisioned it but it is nice!
