SciFi and Fantasy Art: Breaking Tradition

I had the title picked out for this before I even started painting.

It's been a loong time since I've done more than one unicorn in the same piece of art. This took me over 8 hours, I started it - oh, a couple months ago and it sat in a corner until I found it today :) I'm pretty happy with it, except the background could be a little more detailed, lol.

Eyes wide and legs thrashing the two unicorns fought in the river, each one trying to get a lock on the other. One fought for survival, the other for recognition. They had each been wounded several times, but neither had dealt the other a fatal blow. The blood began to run; they struggled on in the dark river, each determined to make an end of his opponent.

So, who would win?

Maybeeeee..... When I was younger, I was adamantly against anything that resembled a traditional unicorn. Now I like them a bit more, but still prefer mine to look more normal-horseyish. Although, as far as how these two turned out, I do like the shading on the white one better. Darn those colored horses, they are so hard to shade! 10"

again... I like that you do not stick with just one type of unicorn. It definently adds to the picture. great job

:-) A. Thomason replies: "When I was younger I hated the traditional unicorns, I thought they were stupid. Now that I’m a little older I don’t have quite the same view, but I tend to like the more horse-like unicorns. Variety is good, though, and it is still fun to draw/paint different types 2 Thank you for commenting!"

Is this based off of Chinese horse fighting? I wanted to draw a pic like this, but failed. (I don’t think I was angry enough. I draw off of my mood that day, same with my writing.) I really like this pic, It’s touching.

:-) A. Thomason replies: "Well, I’ve never seen or heard of Chinese horse fighting, so I guess that would be a no? Lol. I think I may have used a ref for the white unicorn’s back leg (it was frustrating me), but other than that these poses are from my head. I had this idea rattling around in my head for a while, but it took disjointed months of work. Thank you for commenting, and maybe you should give the drawing another try 12 I do that a lot, start a drawing and mess it up or don’t quite like it, but then it’s practice for the real one, and you already have a lot of the work done."
