SciFi and Fantasy Art: Lost

I had a request for a Friesian Pegasus, so here she is! I know, I know - the background is extremely simple. It's partially intentional, as she is lost, stranded, and disoriented. She is not used to this hot, barren desert; she comes from a place where she blends in and the weather is cold. She got separated from her group and is now lost in the middle of a desert. She better find her way back before somebody spots her...

I love her eye, even if Friesians don't... actually... have blue eyes XD The name partially comes from the fact that I was watching several episodes of LOST while painting this, lol. Done in Acrylics.

As to putting in too many highlights, I do the same thing with Photoshop lens flares. "One here, one here, this might look good, one here and another over here." And when I’m done, it looks like an overly decorated Christmas display. Then I have to hit the Step Backward button several times to tone it all down. :cD

"I suppose I could try to excuse away the disproportions by saying that the top half of a flying horse should be larger, because of the wings and wing muscles, but that’s an afterthought excuse "

No, that sounds very logical to me, the chest muscles and around the wings should in "reality" be almost grotesquley over developed to move those giant wings.

:-) A. Thomason replies: "Ok, if this doesn’t go through this time, grumblegrumble... I have tried five times to respond to this comment, and it never works *shifty eyes*. Ok.

My excuse about the proportions... well, for a pegasi, that area should be larger, but I didn’t think of that until afterwards XD My problem is that it is too easy to try to explain away defects by attributing it to fantasy- if I draw a person and something about the drawing isn’t quite right - hey! That’s because it’s an elf! XD So, while for a typical friesian, that shoulder area is too large, for a pegasi, it would fit. Probably the one time my excuse has been valid! 2"

Reminds me too much of friesian..it is a friesian eh?

:-) A. Thomason replies: "Um, yes, it is a Friesian... so I suppose it’s good that you can tell? Lol"

Wow... those wings are beautiful! The way they seem to fill up most of the picture! The plain background really emphasises the pegasus - not to mention I love deserts =P

:-) A. Thomason replies: "Thank you! Ah, deserts. I don’t know what it is about them, but there’s definitely something. I love them too 2"
