SciFi and Fantasy Art: Virtu

Finally... I have a pic up of Virtu. No, not Virtue, but Virtu. There is a difference, a very big difference. And, to the mods - this is fantasy because my horses aren't really horses. My unicorns take on horse forms to disguise themselves but always have something about them that gives them away as not being normal equines. With this particular race of unicorn their overly-saturated eye color and not quite possible coloring is what gives them away.

I haven't wanted to paint/draw him because I was worried it wouldn't come out well. And, I know, his eye is really overly big, but it was to show his emotion. His jaw is also too big. I tend to lose proportions when I paint, as I focus more on color. The scanner ATE this, and this is actually a photo. The scanner is really frustrating. The shading was really good on this, you can kind of still see it if you tilt the screen.

I am lost. I cannot find my way. I know that out there - somewhere - hope is alive; but my hope fades, dwindling into the dark nothingness because I have failed. I have lost the way, and I fear that without rescue, I will soon perish.

Interested? :P He is one of the main characters in my story, 'The Forgotten'. And yes, I did name it before the movie with the same name came out. *sigh*. I was so bummed when I found out there was already a story with the same name, but until I decide upon a new name it will stay as it is.

Done in acrylics on canvas, sometime in July 2007 using dark blue, white, black and brown. I am, overall, pretty happy with how the fellow turned out :D Hope you like!

Is it a girl or boy?

:-) A. Thomason replies: "BOY."

Never mind, you do use paint. Maybe you should paint a Paint horse. :c)

I agree with the others, since this is a fantasy character, some of the features can and should be say, larger than life or distorted and changed somehow.

1 A. Thomason replies: "That would be fun 1 I haven't painted a Paint horse for a while... I like paints much better than colored pencils. They allow more detail and blending and color range (or maybe that's just me 2. Thanks for the comment!"

I love the eye - beautiful. The curve of the neck is also very impressively done!

The neck is superb, especially the crest. The mane so life like. Great job. And, if ur curious, i thought the jaw actually looked a little small compared to his muzzle. Also, i’m not sure if you already know this but horses can have blue eyes.

:-) A. Thomason replies: "Thank you so much for all the comments! The proportions are all just a little off, the jaw is almost too small for the mouth, and the hair coming up from the bottom makes it look even smaller >.< I suppose this piece was more a play with color than a realistic approach. Thank you again for commenting! 2"

Ooh, beautiful colours! And the brightness of the eye really emphasises it in a way, showing the emotion so clearly. Sounds like an interesting story! ^^

:-) A. Thomason replies: "Thanks! I love these colors, and not just for horses/drawings. Browns and blues... love ’em 1 "

:-) A. Thomason replies: "Possiblyyyyyy 1 I have to edit it, and fix it up first, and that task seems daunting at the moment, but I hope to have something up within the next month 2"
