SciFi and Fantasy Art: Afternoon Shadows

A small but ferocious mouse warrior, hanging out next to a curb surrounded by weeds, urban wildlife at its cutest. I took a lot of photos of weeds for this painting. You ever want to weird out the neighbors, lie on your belly behind a dumpster in the alley, trying to get a good detail shot of something that any normal human being would douse with herbicide. Hours of fun. The actual painting, done in Painter and Photoshop, was also hours of fun--about thirty of 'em, to be precise. Finally, credit must go to the lovely artwork of Amara Telgemeier here--while I'd done complicated lighting, detailed realism, and flattish shading with heavy outlines before, (Kachina Frog, for example) I'd never thought to combine all three until I saw some of her gorgeous paintings and said, 'Damn. Yeah. That's the stuff.' So, my hat is off in that direction.
