SciFi and Fantasy Art: The Polar Court

I had an urge to paint checkerboard tile. No, seriously, that was the whole motivation. In retrospect, I could probably have satisfied that urge without three penguins, a bear, and a lemming, to say nothing of all that ruffled satin, but occasionally I outwit myself. (And yes. I know. Polar bears and penguins. I know. North is north and south is south, and ne'er the twain shall meet. I know. It never fails to amaze me that one can do a painting where all the animals are walking, talking, wearing clothes, and obviously not eating each other, and yet somebody will say 'Hey! Polar bears and penguins don't live in the same area!' as if that's the greatest violation of natural law going on in the painting. *cough* Right, sorry, carry on...)

Have you ever considered doing a children’s book? Looking at this, I can imagine an entire story about the Polar Court, with Queen Beatrix, her trusted penguin “man” servants Pinko, Pango, and Pong (kids love alliteration like that . . . lol), and her adoring lemming page, Theodor. I can just “see” her walking down the hall towards a great party that the whole castle has painstakingly put together for her birthday, with a lovely cake of marbled pink marzipan with an ice sculpture of a dancing polar bear on the top, and all the fabulous presents wrapped in bright packaging, in drastic contrast with the blue and white of the castle and it’s inhabitants. Her husband, prince consort Leopold de Winter, is giving her this beautiful crystal necklace, but since all good stories must have a bit of conflict to make them interesting and morality tales, it’s gone missing, having been given to the steward to take to be given a last polishing so that it’s extra lovely for Beatrix. There’s fun hijinks with the court trying to find the necklace, and finally, right as she’s finishing opening the last of the packages that are assembled around her throne, the missing necklace is found and Leopold presents his lovely wife with his present.

Don’t ask me where all this shit comes from . . . it just does, sometimes . . . lol

Pictures like this need no explanation, they cause your imagination to stir with the simple suggestion of progression granted to us. Awesome stuff.
