SciFi and Fantasy Art: Sea Hag

This was an interior illo for Mongoose Publishing's 'Conan: The Pirate Isles' book. Most of the pirates I did were Vallejo-esque bodybuilders, very sculpted bodies and so forth. However, for this one, there was a last minute art rush, and I had this sketch lying around, and was delighted to get to paint this very atypical (but very fun!) pirate woman. (And her monkey. Because c'mon. Everybody loves a monkey!) Painter 7, four or five frantic hours...

23 Jul 2006	Anonymous	Loading... Crazily enough if you've ever read the comic books Elfquest, (Way back in the day.... at least to me) this looks like the crazy witch in the human village in the second book. Besides the monkey and the knife anyway it really looks like her.

The character and feeling expressed are so very exceptional. The angle of the view adds such interest and the colors are exciting and dynamic. I enjoyed the flavor the details give this piece and the facial expression is my favorite part. I enjoyed your other work as well but this is a special image.
