SciFi and Fantasy Art: Sewer Mermaid

C'mon, you know how it goes. People get 'em as pets when they're little and cute and nubile. Then they grow up and get possessive, start having issues, begin scouting out the bathtub as a place to lay eggs, start eating a whole raw salmon at a sitting...pretty soon it's flush time. Mermaids just aren't good pets. By now there's a whole legion of 'em, sulking down in the sewer system, living on goldfish the size of sturgeon and fighting off giant white alligators. Don't even get me started on what happens to the hippocampi down there. (I left on the legs for ease of scrabbling through tunnels, and just went with that slick orange tail. I am particularly pleased with the fins.)
