SciFi and Fantasy Art: Freawyn and Fastwine

These are Freawyn and Fastwine o'NioBeragh in their natural shapes. Fastwine is the gryphon and Freawyn the Hippogryph. Of course as mostly a picture for 'Gryphon and Phoenix'. The picture was made with fineliner.

Does first comment dance on this wonderful detailed picture. Why must they always be in Colour to get comments. I think, it was the best way to give the sketch power, and I think you can still colour it yet.

:-) Uta ´Freawyn´ Hesse replies: "Yes, maybe I'll colour it with the time, who knows. But I think it is not bad to have at least some few B/w pics. I think I will always have more in colour..."

Yes, this is a beautiful b/w-picture! Freawyn is very well done, the wings are beautiful! I also like the stylised background, especially the forest.

:-) Uta ´Freawyn´ Hesse replies: "Thank you. The background was the easiest thing to do, but I agree it is the thing that makes the sketch at least a picture. Perhaps I'll colour it later, don't know. The background was added later, as you can see because my signature is more in the middle of the pic then in the corner. Well, I don't really think its one of my better pics. Yes, Freawyn is the gryphie who came out better, with Fastwine I didn't have much luck especially on the perspective. But well."

Lookie, I managed to go and comment somewhere (thats rare these days) don't you feel honoured? But serious now: this drawing proves once more that you have great skill in b/w even if you (and feel free to correct me if I am wrong) seem to prefer coloured work yourself. Your attention to detail is, as always, amazing.
Of course, as one should expect from someone with such an affection for gryphons, your interpretations of the animal parts that make up these creatures, are perfect.
What irks me a bit is a stationary (sp?) feeling I get. For some reason I am left with the impression of rather immobile beings hovering in midair, though I can not really say why this is so. Perhaps its just that I never really understood how mythical creatures "work".
Still, finishing my meager attempt at constructive critisism, I'd like to end the comment similar to Kerstin: I very much enjoy the background. It has just enough detail to finish the painting, but not too much detail to distract from the important part: Freawyn and Fastwine.

1 Uta ´Freawyn´ Hesse replies: "Hehe.. yes, of course I feel honoured of your comment.... but its because I feel honoured of EVERy comment as well... and yes, I prefer coloured pictures usually. it seems that people like them more, and it makes so much fun to see how my characters look in colour, you know. But I also wouldn't ever give up making b/w s from time to time because on some of my pictures this technic seems to look better, you are right... thank you also for the rst of the comment. What can I say about all that, but I really feel honoured about such words.... so thank you again..."

I wish I could fly! Freawyn looks beautiful in her natural shape! And the more I see of your pictures the more I come to love gryphons, such proud and wonderful creatures - so wild and free here!

:-) Uta ´Freawyn´ Hesse replies: "hehe... greatly! Then I have reached my goal +g* no, really, of course I am happy that you like my artwork more and more because my pictures and my stories are what I live for!"
