Nice, the way you captured the cruelty in his expression. He's enjoying himself, the bastid. And the bright colors and cut of his clothes peg him as nobility, or at the very least, a wealthy man. I can only see one of the pots, so the dying garden doesn't quite seem to fit, but I imagine that's because, as you said, the entire image wouldn't fit.

Nice picture. *smile* The only thing I would work on is that his right upper arm (viewers' left) seems like it ought to be a bit longer, though the hand position is fine. Also, his grip on the whip is a tad lax... but that could work still...
