SciFi and Fantasy Art: The Water Goblin

There is a story from eastern Europe about the Water Goblin (l'Ondin in French, Wassermann in German) who lives in a dark lake. A girl named Clara went there to do laundry one day, forgot her mother's warning, and got too close to the water. The Water Goblin found her so beautiful that he kidnapped her and married her. They lived at the bottom of the lake and had a daughter. Clara grew homesick, and begged him to let her go visit her family, and after some persuasion, he allowed her to go. But she stayed too long, and he came to town looking for her, and chaos followed. This story and several other Czech fair tales were set to music by my favorite composer, Antonin Dvorak. The picture here of the Water Goblin in formal attire (greeting guests for the wedding) is more comical than the original tale probably was, but I got this image stuck in my head and just had to draw it. The lobster-like creature in the fish bowl is his best man. Sketched in pencil, inked with Micron pens.
