SciFi and Fantasy Art: Egyptian Queen

Some of you might recognise Queen Tiy, she was Tut Ankh Amun's grandmother. I saw an Egyptian carving of her, and decided to try to see what she would have looked like when she was alive. This is the result. The head dress is my interpretation of the golden vulture head dress. I have only ever seen it portrayed from the side, so I had to imagine what it might have looked like from the front.
Coloured pencils on pastel paper.

I have to say that it's a very lovely image, I love the headdress especially. Though, despite what some other people said in their comments, Egytians weren't black skinned as we know today. I'm an Egypt history buff, and I've done extensive research on Egypt. They were African, but that does not mean they were black.
And Isis and Osiris were 'black' gods because of metaphorical reasons--black being the color of the fertil Nile Valley as opposed to red of the desert. Actually, Egyptians had rather what we today would say as tan skin, or a very heavy mixing of black and white.
But your drawing is one of the best depictions of any Egyptian I've ever seen. Please do more, your work is absolutely gorgeous.

Beautiful. She must have been a very strong and determined woman, and your picture captures that perfectly.

There we go again, whites trying to disregard our great past. They were black, deal with it. LOOK AT THE LATEST MUMMY TO BE DUG UP.

I hope the one who said to look at a mummy to see Egyptians were black has looked at reason. The mummified flesh is black because of the salts and such used for mummification. Egyptians had many skin tones. Some ancient historians have claimed that Cleopatra herself was pale-skinned and blonde-haired, due to her Macedonian-Greek ancestry. This work of art is wonderful, and I believe that your artwork shows the queen's personality; something you don't see in all artworks. Excellent job!

First of all, there's no doubt about it - your rendering is excellent. I note with admiration your use of the blue paper beneath for the shadows between the ridges in the headdress!

One very, very, very minor qualm: perhaps there could a little bit more of a highlight on the right side of her lips. As it is, the highlighting on her face seems slightly uneven, and her lips look slightly twisted. It's very subtle, but since you want reviews, you're going to get nit-pickers (that's because this picture shows so much more technical skill than a lot of fantasy art or fan art I've seen!).

One question: have you ever done a portrait of Pharaoh Hatshepsut? (Note: I intentionally refer to her as pharaoh, and not as queen!) I haven't studied a lot about Tiy, but she lived during the New Kingdom, when women had a lot more power. However, I think Hatshepsut was probably the most powerful and most useful female Egyptian ruler of them all, and yet the most unjustly ignored by the general public. I think an original portrait of Hatshepsut with your rendering skills would be EXCELLENT.

Keep up the good work!

people are always looking for an excuse to downgrade the black race. they dont want to except that we are superior. From skin, lips, bums, bodies, sports ,music, land ,gold, inventions and to every other thing you can think of. We never get any credit for what we do, instead we get white people copying our styles and get the credit for it. The thing thats so funny is that white people are so quick to say blck people are dirty, whatless people and that africa is ****. answer this :why is it everybody wants a piece of africa, every bloody country has been there and conolised it. "africa has been raped ". people shouldnt even sy anything till they have done their research. The reason why we dont know about black history is because they dont publicise the truth but its there on the internet for you uneducating high nosed people.
