* Looking for artists to feature in a gallery show
This RPG (Role Playing Game) themed collective art show is scheduled for March. This is meant to be a broad category ranging from fantasy to cyberpunk, and of any medium. Horror, aliens, steam punk, war games, superheroes, or anime are some other suitable examples. Higher Grounds (631 N. 3rd st.) is a large place with alot of wall space, so we need lots of awesome stuff to fill it up with. To make the show more exciting and social there will also be a player vs. player gladiator style tournament using the D&D 3.5 system. Fat Jack’s comics has agreed to give us gift certificates to give away as prizes. There will also be a short lineup of electronic music performances of the same theme.

It certainly helps if you're a gamer but you don't have to be, maybe you just really like painting dragons for some reason. If you or someone you know might be interested in participating please send a description and/or sample of your work to: threaten2crit@yahoo.com   [-->Discuss Here!]

* Game designer looking for artists
I've been a game designer in one form or another for over 30 years. Since July, I've been creating a fantasy role-playing strategy game called "To Be King" using the Vassal engine. This is a creation that I've been developing - and enjoying with a small core of friends - for about 15 years (previously as various board game versions). I've always wanted to make an online version of it. Now, with the discovery of the Vassal engine, my dream game may be realized.

I've worked on the game every day since July and I've just recently finished a beta version that's fully operational with a complete rule book.

The problem is, most of the art in the game is stuff I've downloaded from here and there off the Internet. My intention was to use the downloaded art as a place holder to get a working version to play among a private group of friends to work out the dings and scratches and then turn my attention towards finding some artists who could help me fill the game with original art so that I could eventually develop a free public release.

I am currently working with one other person who, like me, can manipulate graphics to some extent but neither one of us is an artist and we really could use some help. Without original art, the game may never be released publicly.

I will gladly give any artists that helps all the mentions and advertizing they would like - in game and/or web site - and will gladly accept any terms and conditions you may have.

For more information ..and to see how the game is progressing ...check out the "To Be King" website.

For other gaming projects I've worked on for about the last 10 years, check out my main page.

Hope to hear from you and happy gaming!

* Charity Artwork Contest
The 2007 Newbold Challenge is helping to raise funds for Children in Need. It does this by organising sponsored artwork, figure sculpting and miniature figurine painting contests and by holding charity auctions on ebay and by selling its own brand of miniature figurines through the Newbold World on-line Shoppe. All the income generated by these activities is donated to Children in need.

You can read a little more about the current range of Challenge activities on the Newbold World website at:

http://www.newboldworld.com/07challenge.html

As part of the 2007 Challenge we have just published details of our inaugural Artwork Event which in essence offers artists the opportunity to display their skills, win a modest cash prize of £50 GBP and cause us to make a matching donation to Children in Need on their behalf. In addition we will donate £1 to Children in Need on behalf of each person who enters up to a maximum of £50 GBP.

This inaugural event has a closing date for entries of 31 December 2007. You can read up on the specific details at:

http://www.newboldworld.com/Artwork/index.html

We hope you'll all send in entries and help us to help a very worthwhile cause! :-)

Best Wishes

* IlluXCon - fantastic illustration convention
IlluXCon, taking place November 6-9, 2008 in Altoona, PA, is the first and only convention dedicated to fantastic illustration. The show will feature one of the largest displays of fantastic art ever mounted, and will be the largest gathering of illustrators of any show in recent history, including many artists rarely seen on the convention circuit. IluXCon will aim to serve as more of a professional symposium than a traditional convention‹a place where artists, collectors, and students of the genre can gather to discuss, explore, and create.

During the course of the show there will be myriad demonstrations (painting both traditional and digital as well as sculpture), lectures, and symposia-type round table discussions. Artists who have already agreed to do demonstrations include Jon Foster, Doug Beekman, Daniel Horne, Charles Vess and Bob Eggleton, among others.

Currently, IlluXCon has over 40 confirmed professional artist guests, not including those who have made tentative commitments, with more to come. These guests include Boris Vallejo and Julie Bell, Rick Berry, John Jude Palencar, Dan Dos Santos, Jon Foster, Bob Eggleton, Stephen Hickman, and Michael William Kaluta, to name just a few.

Each artist attending IlluXCon will bring original works with them for display and sale at the show. In addition, pieces culled from some of the finest collections of fantastic illustration in the world will be on display.

To allow for the proper level of interaction between artists and attendees, there will be only 200 four day Member passes sold for IlluXCon. Up to 100 college or art school-level students will be admitted on November 7/8 for free, and the show will be open to the public with single day ticket sales on November 9.

Details of ticket purchase, as well as show logistics, a complete list of guests, and other information is available on the IlluXCon website at www.illuxcon.com   [-->Discuss Here!]
