It would be hard to imagine there not being a Christmas- themed art contest this time of year, so we decided to run one in parallel with the writing contest.

The challenge for this contest is to create a Christmas-themed image that best captures the spirit of the season: the coming of an unconquerable light which can be glimpsed both in the dance of the stars and a warm smile of a friend, in exchange of gifts, in a warm fireplace and plenitude of the feast during the darkest days of the year, all part of the vision that winter and all the death that we see in nature, will not last forever.

Competition closes on 31 December 2009 [last entries must be handed in before 00:00 [GMT] 1 Jan 2010].

The Prizes:
  • 1st prize: Signs and Symbols: What they Mean and How We Use Them (Book) (See Page 1 and Page 2 for sample contents)
  • 2nd prize: Art Manikin
  • 3rd prize: Best-Loved Celtic Fairy Tales (Book)

  • The above prizes will be supplemented with the granting of a Patron status (1 year/6 months/3 months) if you already are a Patron, your term can either be extended or you can give it as a 'gift' to someone else you like on Elfwood.

    Competition requirements.

  • You have to be a publishing artist in Elfwood.

  • The artist and artwork has to comply with existing Elfwood rules and be published in the artist's gallery before the contest ends. You may post links to unpublished items, but bear in mind that if the moderator has to reject it for any reason it will have to be disqualified from the contest. For this reason it is always best to publish links to pictures that have already been approved by the moderators.

  • Only one (1) entry per participant.

  • The entry has to fall within the the contest theme, pictures not related to the announced theme will not be considered. The submitted image should have been created recently - not over a year ago; images created specifically for the contest will be given particular consideration.

  • Other information.

  • Competition closes on 31 December 2009 [last entries must be handed in before 00:00 [GMT] 1 Jan 2010].

  • Work will be judged by a panel of Elfwood staff and prominent EW published members on the basis of originality as well as technical skill.

  • Prizes will be awarded to the winner and the 2 runners up.

  • Feel free to use any visual medium.

  • To ENTER the contest: Go to the Competition forum section at the Twilight Tavern and make a post in the topic "‘A Light in the Darkness’' with a LINK to the image in your gallery.

  • If you have any questions about this contest feel free to contact Mithrandir, Monica or Support.

  • The winners will be decided after 01.01.2010 in the space of 1 to 2 weeks depending on the volume of submissions we get.

(Please note that some of the above details may be amended if such necessity arises)

    Good luck!

Is it possible to partake if you don’t live in the US? (concerning the delivery of (possible) prizes...not trying to sound overconfident)
    10 Dec 2009:-) Grey Pilgrim
Elfwood is a worldwide fantasy art website. In fact, as far as I know, the prizes would be sent from the EU - to wherever the winners are in the world. Of course you can take part! 7
