Prices...
Every year we see lots of Halloween-themed art submitted to Elfwood around the end of October and it seems a good idea to run a small art contest for Halloween. So this is the challenge: submit a picture that best captures either the day's traditional roots or the more modern interpretation of the holiday.

Competition closes on 1 November 2009

The Prizes:
  • 1st prize: Twilight calendar

    • The winners for the prizes below will be picked at random to follow the ”Tricks and Treats theme.

  • Buffy comic book
  • Doctor Who Jigsaw puzzle
  • Skull bracelet
  • The Nightmare Before Christmas decoration gels
  • + more possible surprise prizes

    • The above prizes will be supplemented with the granting of a Patron status (1 year/1 month) if you already are a Patron, your term can either be extended or you can give it as a 'gift' to someone else you like on Elfwood.


    Competition requirements.

  • You have to be a publishing artist in Elfwood.

  • The artist and artwork has to comply with existing Elfwood rules and be published in the artist's gallery before the contest ends.

  • Only one (1) entry per participant.

  • The entry has to fall within the the contest theme, pictures not related to the announced theme will not be considered.
  • The submitted image should have been created recently - not over a year ago; images created specifically for the contest will be given particular consideration.


    • Other information.

  • Competition closes on 1 November 2009.

  • Work will be judged by a panel of Elfwood staff and prominent EW published members on the basis of originality as well as technical skill.

  • Feel free to use any visual medium.

  • Prizes will be awarded to the winner and a few other people. Aside from the top prize, the exact number and nature of prizes will remain undisclosed - possibly until the end of the contest (that's the tricky bit), roumor has it that more than the 3 top people will end up with a treat of some sort.

  • To ENTER the contest: Go to the Competition forum section at the Twilight Tavern and make a post in the topic "Tricks and Treats: A Halloween Contest' with a LINK to the image in your gallery.

  • If you have any questions about this contest feel free to contact Mithrandir, Monica or Support.

  • The winners will be decided after 01.11.2009 in the space of 1 to 2 weeks depending on the volume of submissions we get.

    This announcement message could be updated/amended by the organisers should the need arise.

    Just to let any curious people know where the ‘trick’ here was – the winners were picked with a progressive degree of randomness: Top 3 picked straight by the vote of the panel, next three were randomized picks from the next few people down the list of the runners up and the last 2 were two totally random draws from all the remaining people who took part. This contest was not run to the standard model that we’d usually use for art contests – it had some more ‘treats’ randomness and fun. Hope you all enjoyed! Mith
