The Challenge: Write a Fantasy or a SciFi themed love poem.

There doesn't seem to be a more appropriate time to run Elfwood's first poetry contest than St. Valentine's day, with love being a major driving force behind poetry on this and probably every other world. The poem should not be shorter than two 4-lined stanzas (approx 50-100 words) and not more than 700 words in total length.

Competition closes on 16 February 2010 [last entries must be handed in before 00:00 [GMT] 17 February 2010].

The Prizes:
  • 1st prize: Canzoniere, Petrarch (Some of the most influential and best known love poetry from the time of Renaissance Europe and since)
  • 2nd prize: Flower Fairies of the Winter by Cicely Mary Baker
  • 3rd prize: Silver Note Book

  • The above prizes will be supplemented with the granting of a Patron status (1 year/6 months/3 months) if you already are a Patron, your term can either be extended or you can give it as a 'gift' to someone else you like on Elfwood.

    Competition requirements

  • You have to be a publishing writer in Elfwood.
  • The writer and poem has to comply with existing Elfwood rules and be published in the writer's library shelf before the contest ends. You may post links to unpublished items, but bear in mind that if the moderator has to reject it for any reason it will have to be disqualified from the contest. For this reason it is always best to publish links to poems that have already been approved by the moderators.
  • The piece has to follow the contest theme: it has to be a fantasy or sci-fi love poem.
  • The poem should not be shorter than two 4-lined stanzas (approx 50-100 words) and not more than 700 words in total length.
  • Other information

  • The contest closes on 16 February 2010 [last entries must be handed in before 00:00 [GMT] 17 February 2010].
  • Work will be judged by a panel of Elfwood staff and prominent published members based on originality, style and its general feel.
  • Prizes will be awarded to the winner and the 2 runners up.
  • To ENTER the contest: Make a post in the forum thread with a LINK to the poem published on your library shelf.
  • If you have any questions about this contest feel free to contact Mithrandir, Monicaor Support.
  • The winners will be decided after 17.02.2010 in the space of 1 to 2 weeks depending on the volume of submissions we get.

  • (Please note that some of the above details may be amended if such necessity arises)

    Good luck!

How do i become a puiblished writer on elfwood and submit writings?

:-) Monica Volcanokitten Figgé Jensen replies: "Anne, you go to ’My Account’ tab, go down to the ’Upload’ option, then it gives you an option to upgrade your account to a publishing account - you pick the ’Wyvern’s Library area and then you can upload work. It would be a good idea to read the Library Rulles first, before you upload any work: http://www.elfwood.com/erb/rules9.html"
