Create a sci-fi image focusing on the theme of the strength of the bond of love that sentient beings can have one for another.

The work would be judged on originality and evocative qualities as well as technical skill and the ability to weave together the concepts present in science fiction with the theme of love ? be it friendship, romantic or family love.

The contest was born of the popular demand for giving a boost to sci-fi art on Elfwood and the desire to give this contest a seasonal and challenging aspect.

At one time Elfwood had a special section for sci-fi Art called Zone 47, which has been dismantled to streamline the moderation process. So while no strict distinction is made between fantasy and sci-fi art, keep in mind that for the contest the images have to have a sci-fi (or a mix of sci-fi & fantasy) but not simply fantasy theme. For example, anything with sci-fi futuristic technology, artificial intelligence, advanced robots, spaceships, aliens etc should be ok, while simply elves, fairies, unicorns and zombies etc do not really fit the sci-fi part of the theme. Things like an elf flying a spaceship should be ok.

Competition closes on 16 February 2010 [last entries must be handed in before 00:00 [GMT] 17 February 2010].

The Prizes:
  • 1st prize: 'Extreme Worlds' Drawing guide
  • 2nd prize: The Fifth Element Special Edition DVD
  • 3rd prize: 2010 Starcraft 2 Calendar

  • The above prizes will be supplemented with the granting of a Patron status (1 year/6 months/3 months) if you already are a Patron, your term can either be extended or you can give it as a 'gift' to someone else you like on Elfwood.

    Competition requirements.

  • You have to be a publishing artist in Elfwood.
  • The artist and artwork has to comply with existing Elfwood rules and be published in the artist's gallery before the contest ends. You may post links to unpublished items, but bear in mind that if the moderator has to reject it for any reason it will have to be disqualified from the contest. For this reason it is always best to publish links to pictures that have already been approved by the moderators.
  • Only one (1) entry per participant.
  • The entry has to fall within the contest theme, pictures not related to the announced theme will not be considered. The submitted image should have been created recently - not over a year ago; images created specifically for the contest will be given particular consideration.
  • Other information.

  • Competition closes on 16 February 2010 [last entries must be handed in before 00:00 [GMT] 17 February 2010].
  • Fan Art is permitted in this contest.
  • Prizes will be awarded to the winner and the 2 runners up.
  • Feel free to use any visual medium.
  • To ENTER the contest: Go to the Competition forum section at the Twilight Tavern and make a post in the topic "Quantum Heartbeats" with a LINK to the image in your gallery.
  • If you have any questions about this contest feel free to contact Mithrandir, Monicaor Support.
  • The winners will be decided after 16.02.2010 in the space of 1 to 2 weeks depending on the volume of submissions we get.

  • (Please note that some of the above details may be amended if such necessity arises)

    Good luck!

Already made a peice. Just waiting 4 it to be accepted!17

:-) Monica Volcanokitten Figgé Jensen replies: "You’re more than welcome to post a link to your picture in the Forum thread before it’s been processed by the moderators. That way you’re sure it will be entered in the contest in time. Although if it breaks any rules, then it will be rejected by the moderators and disqualified for the contest, meaning you would have to fix the problems and resubmit it to the contest."

I’m very surprised to have won the top place, and would like to thank the judges for picking my picture. However, I would like to relinquish my prize - cool as it is - towards a future Elfwood sci-fi art contest, which I hope will not be long in coming. 2
