Discuss Elfwood News Entry: Moderators back in working mode...

By :-) Thomas at Wed May 13 08:25:20 2009

After some testing the new system with all new technology as well as the new simplified/updated rules, is now ready to accept new exciting material to Elfwood. The moderators have started to work through the queue of unpublished items.

The "ticket" system is gone, and the "top of the queue" is now calculated from a mix of:

- Time of last upload.

- How active you are at Elfwood - if you log on and use Elfwood frequently, you're up on the list...

- We prioritize our Patrons, of course.

The new "Other Works" tab will hold just about anything, so if you expect only SciFi/Fantasy, stick to the Artwork tab. Howver, I personally think its very exciting to see a much broader range of material at Elfwood.

The Wyvern's Library queue is still on hold, we have to test the HTML/Illustrations combo a bit more carefully before we're publishing any fiction; so expect some more day(s) for that...

Brandy makes a good point - i cant remember when i last had to log in but i am elfwood more or less daily - can u simply see if accounts are being used often? Also do we have to have a separate account for the ’other works’ section or does it happen automaticaly if we submit non-genre work? i do love though new layout though!

:-) Thomas F Abrahamsson replies: "Yes, the system checks recent activity. The Other Works tab is automatically made by the system when you either submit NG (non-genre) materials or a moderator moves it there. It doesn’t have a separate UID, since it’s just an attachment to your account. //Monica - Elfwood Head Moderator and Forest Manager"

So, if we don’t log on a lot, how long does it take for art to be published?

:-) Thomas F Abrahamsson replies: "Usually it took between a couple of days to a week, depending on which area you’re published in. FanQuarter always takes longer to process, because a lot of people upload copied art, which we need to track down the originals for. Currently the queue is bigger than usual, and the reason is that we opened up for uploading materials on May 3, but the moderating tools wasn’t opened before May 13, so we’re currently lacking a bit behind. //Monica - Elfwood Head Moderator and Forest Manager"

I’m on here so much I don’t bother logging in or out. I comment a lot, and had an update this week within a day or so.

I trust we’ll be notified as usual when we get published?

And I hope you’ll restore the link to the previous pages of updates; I hate to think of the good stuff I’m missing if I don’t check that page constantly....... 7@=Q

:-) Thomas F Abrahamsson replies: "Yes, you’ll receive an email as usual 2 If you’re refering to the new updates, then that is placed in "Recent Additions" under "What’s New". //Monica - Elfwood Head Moderator and Forest Manager"

Question: are we still doing different passwords and names for fan art and fantasy art? And are there plans to merge the two accounts to one since they are pretty much one, just on different tabs? I’ve forgotten my fan art password. >_< Also, I can’t seem to find the "Other Works" tab. need to make some more art...

:-) Thomas F Abrahamsson replies: "There’s still different UID’s for accounts in the different areas. The passwords you can choose to be the same. Currently no plans to merge SF&F and FanQuarter. You can only see the "Other Works" tab under your accounts when you have something published there. //Monica - Elfwood Head Moderator and Forest Manager"

One thing that I miss from the tickets is that I have no idea where I am in the pile waiting to be moderated. With the tickets, I knew approximately how long I had to wait. Now I’m checking my library several times a day, hoping to see that the story I want input on is published, which is time I could be spending working on the next chapter. It probably won’t be as annoying once the reopening flood subsides, since work will be published more quickly, but as it is, it gets a little old after a week of excitedly checking my library five times a day, only to be disappointed.

I danced a little when I heard the Extranet was dead. It is so much more convenient to have everything on one site. Whoever had the idea to combine the two is a genius.

Will out-of-genre fiction be published on the ’Other Works’ tab? And if so, will fanfiction be able to go there?

:-) Thomas F Abrahamsson replies: "Yes, non-genre fiction will be published in the "Other Works" tab. Fanfiction is not allowed in Elfwood at this time, but that might change.

/\ Yes it will / does.

There seems to be a glitch in the system that notifies someone when a favorite artist has updated. It doesn’t always work and it doesn’t always work for those who have been tagged or did the tagging. Is this just something that can’t be corrected?

:-) Thomas F Abrahamsson replies: "Yes, that will be fixed eventually. There’s still a lot of bugs that needs to be fixed and this is one of them."
