Elfwood Area and Material definitions...

Elfwood is divided into 3 areas, all allow amateur as well as pro artists/writers to participate. All Elfwood members may "upgrade" their accounts for free, and start publishing SciFi&Fantasy Fiction and Art. All material that is not allowed, may still be published, but then it will be placed under a "Other Works" tab of your page.

What does Elfwood mean by Science Fiction and Fantasy? Anything that cannot be proven by existing fact--such as angels, elves, aliens, etc--is considered fantasy/sci-fi. However, historical figures such as knights are not necessarily considered fantasy without an explanation of how they belong in the fantasy realm. The same applies to religious figures: as they were actual people, they can be considered historical. Material that is considered to not have sci-fi or fantasy elements will now be pushed into a Other Works section. This will be a holding ground for material that doesn't follow our genre requirements or our image quality standards. This area will be visible to other users once it is moved there by a moderator.

 The SF&F Art Galleries...

* Fantasy: For high fantasy artwork. This includes but is not limited to wizards, dragons, unicorns, centaurs, faeries, minotaurs, furries, goblins and orcs. We also accept artwork based on mythology, legend, folklore, vampires, mystical, angels and demons as long as it is kept in a fantasy setting.

*  Sci-Fi: For sci-fi, horror and urban or modern fantasy. This includes, but is not limited to robots, biomechanical objects, electronics, superheros, and any image which also features fantasy creatures (dragons on skyscrapers, elves on motorcycles, fairies with guns, et al.).

 The Wyvern's Library
For stories and poetry in a medieval, futuristic or even modern setting, as long as elements of fantasy (high, urban/sci-fi or modern) is present. The fantasy may also be combined with or include themes like horror, mythology, legend, folklore, gothic, vampires, mystical, angels and demons. Note that poetry/stories about how bad you're feeling at the moment may be a matter of personal horror but they are not appropriate for Wyverns.

 The FanQuarter...
For science fiction and fantasy themed Fan Art. Elfwood defines Fan Art as any picture depicting characters or scenes from a published form of visual media. This includes, but is not limited to, movies, TV shows, comics, webcomics, graphic novels, and computer/video games. Original characters belonging to a fan universe (like Star Wars or Sailor Moon) also belong in FanQuarter. For legal reasons, any complaint or requests of removal from the copyright/trademark holder of any fan artwork will result in a total delete of all images concerned.

  1. All Fan Art MUST be from a visual source that is Sci-Fi or Fantasy in theme.
  2. Copied pictures (in other words, reproductions of someone else's work, whether traced or drawn freehand) are NOT Fan Art. They are copies and do not belong anywhere on Elfwood!
  3. Pictures of characters belonging to friends are not Fan Art unless they fall into a fan universe.
  4. Illustrations from Science Fiction or Fantasy literature are not Fan Art. The only exception to this rule is Harry Potter. All art from Harry Potter should go to FanQuarter whether it is based on the movies or the books.
  5. Pictures of your character from a text-based RPG like Dungeons and Dragons go into Science Fiction and Fantasy art. However, pictures of your character from a D&D video game go into FanQuarter.
  6. ALL video games with a visual interface are considered to be a source of fan art, even if you create original characters within the game.
