My theory is that most Pokemon fanart looks like a little kid drew it because a little kid probably DID draw it--the target audience of the whole Pokemon craze is adolescents/pre-teenagers. I am one of the rare older Pokemon fans, though I really only like the video games. They're enjoyable to play, involve a lot of strategy, and most of all, they have cool creatures in them.
And besides that, Pokemon are just fun to draw. The creature designs are unusual and interesting, but simple enough that they allow a fan artist like myself to draw some really wild interpretations of them. (Currently I'm planning to draw the three legendary birds--Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres--in a semi-realistic style. That ought to be fun.)" | |
