FanArt: FFX-2 Baralai Costume

I spent 200+ hours making this costume for a convention in Denver. Over 100 of those hours were spent on the coat alone. >_< All the sash symbols are hand-painted on and are actual letters from the Yevonic alphabet of FFX and X-2. I couldn't find red rope and didn't want to use the dinky craft rope that was too small, so I had to find some white rope that WASN'T nylon so I could dye it red; then I had to sculpt the grommets from clay and paint them silver because I couldn't find any the proper size. This baby's fully lined, and even those orange panels on the coat are inlaid with sheer orange ribbon to give that woven effect (can't see it in this picture ;-;). The wig was hand-styled from a white bob party wig. It was a terrible thing to work with and was a bit too small; a word to the wise, always pay extra for a high quality wig.

What can I say - I love Baralai. Go here to see my main reference (an official trading card from Square-Enix). There's also a full gallery and more detailed description of its creation at my cosplay website.

VERY impressive! You did an awesome job! Isn't cosplay great? ^ ^ It sure is! This is actually the first costume I made for myself, though I've been making them for other people for about 8 months now. Thanks for the comment!

I can't say enough just how awesome this is (hell it impressed me so much that I just had to commission you myself! =D) the work you put into this really shows, it's professional level work!
Your costume making skills amaze and astound, congrats on a kick ass job well done! Good crap, I'm slow at responding. ^^; I'm so flattered by all the nice things being said about this costume. Thanks Jen!

Hey, a fellow cosplayer! ^_^

We nice and stylish costume. Even though I don't know the character, it still looks very good.

This so deserves a Mod's @_@ If I had my way! *shakes fist at nothing in particular in a very justice-driven manner* *shakes fist along with you*
I don't want to risk sounding vain, but...I kind of think it deserves a Mod's too. ^^

Whoa...this is probably the most accurate and most impressive costume i´ve seen in a loooooong way. I luv everything for it! Now you only need his gun and that weird spear he uses OoO. Well, I'd have to have a professional make the gun and spear, and seeing as I'm penniless...I'll probably never have them. =P But it's a nice thought!

You did a fantastic job on this costume! Believe me, I know first-hand how difficult novelty costuming is. I think you found some really creative solutions to construction problems. I hope you won a prize. =)I didn't get there in time to even be in the costume contest. ;-; Buuuut, I'm wearing it to another con in March, so I'll get into the contest there! *crosses fingers*
Thanks for your comment!
